quick question, 10 days post op
That varies from person to person. At 10 days out I think I was drinking about 2-3 oz of my protein shake at a time. I would be full for about 2 to 3 hrs then I would have another 2-3 oz. You will have to see how you feel as you sip slowly. You may have less swelling and may be able to handle more. You won't really restriction with liquids like you will later. Just go slow.
If you're worried about stretching your tummy, no, you can't hurt it. Liquids will move right through. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't take care drinking. If you start feeling full, stop and let your stomach empty. The last thing you want is to throw up over a shake.
For me, liquids were easy after surgery. I wasn't chugging, but I could drink steadily without problem. Other folks have a lot of swelling, making it harder to drink. So, with liquids, do what's comfortable.
your sleeve will tell you the answer to this, but probably not unless you stretch it over an hour or two. i used to pour out 2 or 3 ounces at a time and keep the rest in the fridge to keep it cold. then get another couple of ounces every 20-30 minutes or whatever works. never drink to the point of discomfort. it will be hard to get your protein in at first but just keep at it slowly. it will be worth it in the long run. diane
Maybe. Is the right answer. You can't stretch your sleeve through drinking. You can sip on it for as long as you want to and the liquid will just go right through. Just refrain from gulping for now as it might cause you discomfort. There is no time limit on drinking your protein shake so let your new stomach be your guide.
