Berries, Seeds and Nuts?
My surgeon's plan says I'm clear for unrestricted tomorrow. 6 weeks post op. I know some where not clear for berries and nuts til furtherer out. When are they safe? I know they can be a risk for getting caught in the staple line early out. Is 6 weeks enough?

Ever? Did you have VSG or RNY? I have heard that for RNY but I haven't heard it for VSG. I know many on OH have flaxseed (ground up) for omega vitamins and fiber once they are allowed to have seeds. I'm just not sure when is safe to start.

I am thinking that I could have them very early on as well. But didn't due to calories and carb counts.
Now that I am in maintenance I eat 28g almonds daily. I also eat strawberries ... about half a cup daily. I have been using flaxseeds since about week 9 I would guess. If I have a day without strawberries I replace it with blueberries.
I would think that at 6 weeks the berries (seedless varieties) would be OK as long as they don't put you into the too high calories or carbs category. I would probably recommend holding off on nuts and flaxseed for about 2 or 3 more weeks. Even if you are given the go ahead, if you don't feel comfortable you can slow down and take things at your own speed.
In my opinion nuts and seeds and berries (with seeds) have the potential to cause issues if eaten too early. But I am not a doctor and a doctor would certainly know better than I when you are capable of such a thing.
My ultimate advice is if you think that it seems a little too early to do any step of this weight loss, then there is no reason not to delay it just a little longer until you feel more comfortable. Nothing bad can come from a little patience. Time flies and delaying it for another couple of weeks wouldn't be a bad idea ... you know ... just in case.
When did your surgeon clear you for them?
