HELP!!!!! HELP !!! Sudden Loss of Hair 3 months Post-Op
Hi Fellow Vsgers.
I am 3 months post-op lost almost 85lbs. Suddenly i realized this week im loosing too much hair while in shower and in my towel. Iam shocked, im eating healthy and reguarly. I am low on water , and im not taking any protein supplements, since i think i eat enough of protein in shape of Eggs, Fish, Greek Yougurt and milk, i was taking it till 1st month post op. But i bought some 30gr Protein bars today from Costco.
I talked to a Family Doc, he advised me taking biotin, but he forgot to tell me how mcuh a day, can any one help me with this?
Cheers
Hi Lynn, It's funny when I went for my 1 month visit my doctor said that he has changed what he tells patients about protein. He used to tell them between 60 to 70 for women. Now he said between 80 and 90 for women. He's almost in line with your doc now. And not to worry if you get more than that it's just the minimum.

(86.2 lbs of that was lost since surgery date)
I take 1000mg Biotin every day, but please know that this will not stop it. The biotin will just help with the growth of the new hair coming through.
I have just vacuumed my bedroom and had to cut my fallen hair off the vacuum roller. There was so much of it wrapped around it! Mine started falling out about 3 weeks ago. I lose a big handful every morning. Between me and the cat, there is hair everywhere!...lol
Rest assured, it will grow back

Ahhhh. I feel your pain! I am 3 1/2 months post op and it started coming out at 3 months exactly- do a search on hair loss nd you will see it is unfortunately normal. Did they not tell you about this in your surgeons office? If you had no warning that must have really freaked you out! Taking a good mulitvitamin, with biotin, get in adequate protein (100 grams a day), and taking flax oil, fish oil and coQ10.....even I think I read, may not stop the loss, its your body responding to the shock of the rapid weight loss, but should help with regrowth. Try to console yourself, that as a guy.... maybe your hair is 3-4 " long tops- once it starts coming back, you'll be back to your old self in no time. For me, with hair half way down my back, and on the thinner, very fine side......Im freaking out and looking into wigs!
Some people recently posted that they had always had thick beautiful hair and were flippin out about hair loss- to them I say, count your blessings- you will be fine ... even if you lose half your hair you'll still have more than some of us started with...I know its scarey but I am really thinking I will be bald at this rate...
I'm consoling myself with this... many wonderful people have had to lose their hair due to chemo for cancer, and they went through it with grace and dignity while grappling with a life threatening illness! While it is no fun, and I hate it.. I am blessed beyond measure that I am losing my hair because I am becoming healthier and losing weight. It still sucks, but a trade off I am willing to make! I'll try to find my place of grace with it! Talk to me when I comb my hair tomorrow morning and see how thats working for me - lol!!! I have heard it last s approximately 3 months give or take. I know I dont have enough to last me that long at this rate of loss!!
Hang in there. I am actually looking into laser light therapy because my hair never recovered since having kids, and my mom was near bald later in her life- there is a home system called igrow... costs about 600.00 (like I said NOT just because of this loss but because my hair has suffered for years and I want to help ensure it grows back to at least its former state). I watched a utube video where a cancer patient went to laser light therapy and got her hair back..... a major news caster interviewed a dr. who said that he believes the at home system will work as well as the expensive machines you have to pay like 3k for a year of therapy at one of those medical places. Anyway, still researching it because it is a lot of money, but all of the other snake oil treatments and vitmamins dont appear to stop the shedding. For some reason with the shock to the body, many more than ususal hairs are at the last stage , end stage, all at once. It should come back. get your protein in !!
By the way, 85 pounds in three months- you are doing awesome!!! Congratulations!

I rue the day when I seriously start to lose my hair, which is about 2.5 feet long. However, I classify that as taking the bad with the good.
