Help me - please!
I'm 19 days out from surgery - surgery went well as I've not had any issues other than with an incision that has chosen to heal as it pleases. Not a surprise this same thing happened when I had my first c-section.
Thursday night, 12/27 I became sicker than I can remember ever being. Sorry for being so graphic, but it all started quickly while I was at dinner with my family. Boom! I was dry heaving with a river running through all night long. I swear I was up doing one or both every 20 minutes. My ribs are so sore as is the rest of my body right now - I'm having to take hot baths and putting heating blankets on and taking them off due to the chills. My husband took me to the ER Friday morning. I was so dehydrated they ran 2 liters of fluids into me, zofran and toradol. I immediately felt better while still sitting in the ER. Then they sent me home. . .I'm trying all I can to get my fluids in. The nurse said to start on a broth, rice, chicken and toast diet when I got home. Well, that's just freak'n great since I can't eat bread/toast, rice or anything not pureed. . .although at this point I'm sure I could chew whatever it is into a puree.
I literally feel as if I'm dying. I don't know what to do. . . if feel like I need something solid in my stomach, but what could that be? My husband is pushing chicken soup broth and water trying to help as much as he can. I've literally been in bed since Thursday night. I'm definitely in rare form right now and just want to ball up and cry myself better. My stomach sounds like a Grisly bear preparing to attach, my whole body hurts so much! I don't know if I should try to take immodium or not - I'm at a loss and need all the advice and encouragement anyone can give.
What should I try to eat, what is there to drink other than more Crystal Light and sweet crap. I'm so down right now, so down!
I would drink shakes with Whey Isolate Protein rather than combo proteins to prevent any extra stomach distress.
Keep you in my prayers!!
You should be on protein supplements your incision not healing as it should makes me think that you aren't getting enough. What are you doing about protein? Nashua can come from being extremely dehydrated and you have to drink. I'm guessing you were given an IV in the ER? That's probably what made you feel better. Hunger can be confused so many times with thirst. You have to get in 64oz minimum. You should really be going for 80oz or more. If not your going to be right back in the ER. At this point number one goal is to keep yourself hydrated, after that it's to meet your 80 gram a day protein goal. I know things are hard right now but you will get through and you will get better. Do whatever you can to get the fluid in, drink hot, popsicles or whatever you can do to get fluid in. I had to drink hot tea. Unjury has a chicken soup protein I like very much, you can try that. Also Elena has some green soup recipe everyone raves about...you might try that.

As for chicken ... buy some canned chicken and throw it a blender with something to flavor it. Walden Farms had Bacon Ranch, Blue Cheese and other dressings which are all 0 calorie, 0 carbs, and 0 fat.
Also you can try some fish as well as that usually is not a dense protein and can easily be eaten and "pureed" in your mouth so to speak. Tilapia, Orange Roughy, Perch, and other such mild fishes would probably do well.
My nutritionist defined puree as anything that can be mashed with a fork. That being said a sweet potato is a relatively mild food that can be mashed and is not that bad for you. There is a lot of fiber in it and that can help solidify things as they go through. I know at this point in time you aren't getting a lot of fiber which means things going in mostly liquid are coming out the same way. I have found that putting in some fiber will help things get more solid. I buy Psyllium Husk at Trader Joe's for about $6.50 a cannister that gives you 28 servings. On the cannister it says Secrets of The Egyptians. This is 100% psyllium husk. The only caution here is that you need to make sure you take it with at least 10 ounces of liquid and make sure you are getting in as much liquid as you can each day. I throw this into my protein shakes. It has done wonders for me.
And yes if you need Immodium then by all means that is what my surgeon recommended for me if I needed it.
Good Luck and I am sorry you are having these issues.
I Love giving advice...but some things are not adding up here. ( Your surgery date is different than 19 days? Was this a revision?)
All I'm gonna say is...call your surgeons office and speak to an "oncall" today...or go to the ER of the , or A, hospital that has experience with WLS...
Good Luck!

I agree with the others as far as staying hydrated goes. You need to get in those protein since they play a big role in healing and also in speeding up the healing process. Next or with it try to sip anything you are allowed to sip, broth, water, fruit 2O, popsicles are awesome to quench the thirst as long as they are sugar free. You can probably eat fat free Greek yogurt and fat free cottage cheese. I don't know what stage you are in but it sounds like you are in the pureed stage.
I would stay away from chicken or any meats while you are getting your strength back. Are you allowed saltine crackers? I am and I am in my pureed stage also. Chew them really well to a almost liquid consistency and then swallow, they also help with an upset tummy. Keep warm and rest as much as possible and sip sip sip............Good luck Honey.
