Ice is hard

Well, at my skating class tonight, I ate it pretty hard. I haven't had a fall like that in a long time. I was able to get back up and continue with the lesson, but without my former butt padding, I really felt it. I am going to be really sore in the morning. Of course, I'll take the pain over the butt padding any day.

I think it's terrific that you're taking the lessons.

I hear ya on the ouch factor.  My bike seat is getting very uncomfortable now that I've dropped 45.

I hear there are padded bike shorts, that may help. There isn't padded skating clothes, but that's alright.

Linda, OUCHIE!!

The dilemma for me is that ice skating of course has a risk of falling associated with it, and I don't want to be injured! On the other hand, it has to be an excellent "weight bearing" exercise that helps to strengthen bones and muscles...!! Npt to mention that that feeling of gliding is like nothing else...

Keep on keeping on, my friend. Soon I will be joining you on the ice!

Be careful! Enjoy!!

Yes, it hurts, but I will press on. I know there are many more falls to come.

I hear you.  I am working on perfecting my axel and that means I have to fall over 1,000 times, according to my trainer.  Well, it's a good thing that I have at least 800 of them out of the way.  :)  The ice is really hard and the falls can be brutal.  I had black and blue marks all up an down one side for two weeks when I started back.  We must be masochists, but I still think it's worth it.

It is worth it. I know there are many more falls to come, since DH ran a 1/2 marathon on his surgiversary with a personal record, my goal is to land an axle on mine. The big question is, can I do this in just under 9 months? I'm sure going to work for it. Oh, I have been instructed by DH to get myself a new pair of skates for Christmas. They won't be the top of the line, but it will sure be better than what I have.

How are you feeling now?  Hopefully not as bad as you thought.  I ice skated from the time I was 5 to 16 - competitively.  I haven't been on the ice in over 20 years, so that's definitely on my post-vsg bucket list.  But I was going to say during all those years of skating I had lots of falls, bruises, sprains, but no breaks.  However, one night at the roller rink back when I was about 12 I fell on that hard, unyielding surface and broke my arm in two places:(  So anyways, I always think that the cold ice has some healing properties, especially vs a roller rink floor.

How do I put this delicately, my butt and hip HURT. But, I am not giving up. It is amazing that my balance is better now that I am lighter. Although that could not be proven last night. But, I will press on.
