My sleeve is a shameless food hussy! Will it ever develop some standards?
Muttlover,
Mine is the same way!! I was sleeved two days ahead of you and I'm amazed that I don't feel any restriction, pain or discomfort, etc. I just try to be really careful with quantity (and quality) of food I eat. I am hoping like you that once solids start I'll feel more of the restriction.
I find it so interesting that there is no "standard" when it comes to advancing your diet; some people are on liquids for weeks on end. My doctor had me on liquids for 2 weeks post-op. I started soft/pureed foods this week and I'll be on it next week, and then that's it! By week 5, a regular diet. I guess everyone is different.
The Frisco post on the Pyloric Valve should be mandatory reading! It really helped me understand why we feel practically no restriction during the liquids phase -- and even though I had read it weeks before surgery, I was surprised by how how easy liquids and purees just zoom right through!
If I puree the horse, I'll let you know how it goes! LOL!
I'm glad to know that you're doing so well!
I'm also glad you asked this question. I'm a week behind you and gathering all the information I can about what's ahead to make the best use of this sleeve and not ruin this chance. Thanks to all *****plied!
At the puree stage I hadn't gotten sick at all except for one time I chugged almond milk and I got dizzy. You have to be careful thinking you have a sleeve of steel because your nerve endings are severed and so you can't feel what's going on in there. Don't pu**** because people here have ended up with leaks and it's been BAD.
Thanks! I keep reminding myself of the nerve endings --- but I don't think I'm pushing it, since pureed anything (well, maybe not horse!) is what my plan calls for now. I had basically two days of clear liquids, a week of full liquids and then a week of purees, before moving to a week of soft foods (next week), then solid foods (the following week). Since I was traveling, I was introducing a "new" liquid or puree at practically every meal -- basically licking it off the spoon, so I could be sure I was going slow enough. It just surprised me that I was fine with all of them!
