One Month Post/VSG and Feeling Hunger every 2hours
Hi All, I had my surgery on 10/16/12 and been on Pureed foods since last 2 weeks, i have been taking minced chicken with beens puree with 2 tsp of mashed potatos for lunch and dinner , been snacking on papaya and Breakfast is 100g low fat yougurt and later 2 egg whites scrambled. Been dodging protein shakes since i cant keep them down and feel nausea right after i take a sip, been on chiken broth for liquids to take as much protein i can the natural way.
But since few days i have been really feeling hungry, and i have to eat something every 2 hrs, my water intake is poor ony 1 Liter max per day, have any one felt hunger like this , i feel like there is nothing in my stomach and it wants something, could it be acid or too much bile in stomach???? PLS HELP!
I agree with the others.. This surgery takes away those hunger sensors, so you shouldn't really feel "hunger".. you can feel empty, I guess, but that's when you should be drinking water.. I drink the Ensure Clear drinks (1/2 a bottle a day right now), but it has 9 grams of protein and kinda tastes like fruit juice.. You've got to keep trying to find a protein powder that works for you.. or a smoothie recipe with greek yogurt? Something with fluids in it, bc 1 Liter a day is definitely not enough..
Good luck!

You REALLY need to get more water in. You are probably dehydrated by now, and it is difficult to catch up on that. Talk to your surgeon about how you can get more in if you are having difficulty.
I had/have hunger too. It got MUCH better when I got on solid foods and dense proteins, so hang in there.
Water. Water. Water. Water. Flavor it with crystal light if you have to. Get it in.
Track more. I'm seeing potatoes and regular yogurt which usually spells out carbs. Carbs make me hungry. My absolute max is about 80 per day, but I stay around 40 for max weight loss and less hunger, switch to greek yogurt - higher in protein too - it tastes just like sour cream, I mix in Walden Farms caramel dip (zero everything) but others use SF syrups, etc.
Find a shake you can tolerate. The only ones I can are the ready to drink kind. I can't do powders, they make me ill (I prefer Pure Protein vanilla). Most GNCs have singles you can buy, although Muscle Milk also can be found nearly everywhere now. Watch for carbs.
Get back on a PPI, prilosec.
Are you tracking? What's your plan call for? I know there's a big carb debate here, but if you're feeling hunger this early out it's most likely acid, but those carbs aren't helping you either.
MY opinion.

You are eating all pretty much liquid soft foods. Those slide through easy. Once you are able to eat more dense proteins like chicken and fish, you will definitely feel fuller longer. In fact, you will have to watch your portions or you will be in pain. You might be able to eat 4-5 oz of greek yogurt but you won't likely want to eat more than 2 oz of dense proteins to begin with. Those will make you feel fuller longer. For starting meats, I started with those Gerber meat sticks (baby food isle). At first I even peeled off the "skins" and had tiny bites of the insides. Heated up a bit, those are not bad and they are already pretty mushed up but they did stick with me longer than things like yogurt and cottage cheese.
Upping the PPI is a good suggestion too. I was feeling "hungry" even on one prilosec (20mg) so I started taking 2 in the morning instead of one. That did help with that kind of burning feeling that feels like hunger but may not be.
