It comes in Chocolate, Vanilla, and unflavored.  I was wonder if anyone uses it for preop diet and post op diet?  I like that it is all natural /organic/ vegan and non dairy and that it has fiber.  I noticed it's a bit gridy so I'm not sure if it's okay right away for a post op until maybe a few weeks out.    I like the protein to be a tad higher and the carbs to be a tad lower but I figure if you don't mix it with milk and only mix it with water that's all the carbs you get.  Any opinions?

For Chocolate or Vanialla (unflavored has slightly less carbs) 1 serving

Calories 90

Protein 17

Fat O (I think)

Carbs 7

Fiber 6

That's the protein powder my trainer recommends...no wheat, no dairy...it didn't bother me when I used it. I can't get it where I live now but will be stocking up when I go home next. The unflavored was great to add to almost anything,..but it was gritty. S

Oh and for this p-urpose - I figure if it's 17 g of protein and the goal is 60 a day...it's enough protein.  The fiber will help keep you moving, since we are supposed to have so much protein and 7 carbs really isn't that much - it will depend on what you are eating the other parts of the day...

My thought was really if it would be safe to have it right after surgery because of the grittiness.  I know we aren't supposed to have nuts or seeds for about 3 months to not disturb the staple line.    So I'm sure in the preop diet it would be fine but I'm not sure if we would need to wait a few months to use it again post op for that reason.

Also just so you know you mentioned not being able to get it at the store in your area.  You can buy it online & have it mailed to you.  Vitacost and Luckyvitamin both sell it cheaper than my local store does.

When are you have surgery?  Do you have a date yet?   Mine's for Dec 17th.

Have you tried PlantFusion?  It isn't Raw, but it is Vegan, soy free, dairy free and gluten free.  I buy it on-line on Amazon, but you can find it at healthfood stores and get sample packets too.  Not gritty at all to me, and I have used no other protein powder or drink, since I started this journey.

Not sure on carbs, because I do not count them, but calories when made with water are 120 and protein is 21 grams, I make a serving and a half for breakfast 180 calories and 31 Protein and it lasts me until lunch, it takes me about 2 hours to drink it still, 1 if I hurry.  I love the chocolate one, but it is an acquired taste.

Wow still takes you two hours to drink it! OMG I keep forgetting the reality of this surgery.   I hope it doesn't take you that long to drink a cup of water.  I love water and will miss guzzling it down.  Anyway back to Plant Fusion.  I have the chocolate one.   I agree on the acquired taste.  I haven't acquired the taste yet.  LOL!    They do say that tastesbuds change after surgery so maybe I'll change on that.  I actually saved it for after surgery a few months ago thinking maybe my tastes would change and I'd use it than.  Than I forgot all about the fact I even had it.  So thank you for bringing it up.  Carbs aren't too bad they are 4 grams I just checked.   Do there other flavors have an acquired taste too?  I haven't tried them.

Sorry for misleading.  It takes me an hour to 2 hours for the protein shake, not jus****er.  Water and non protein drinks go down pretty quick.  I still cannot drink like I used to, but if needed I can get quite a bit of water down at one time.  The protein goes down differently for me and is a bit thicker, so I just take my time and drink it throughout the morning.

I am drinking the chocolate raspberry PlantFusion this morning and it is pretty good.  I actually will sometimes, for a treat, add a bit of sugar free coffee syrup to my protein shake.  Sometimes peppermint or almond.  That changes it up a bit too.

Okay cool.  Glad it doesn't take you as long to drink water.   Does every flavor kind of have that acquired taste?

OMG!  You are going to laugh.  I just went back and re-tasted it for breakfast.  I must have gotten used to the weird  or "acquired" different tastes of the different proteins I've tasted over the last few months.  I actually like it now!  LOL.  And your right it is not gritty much better than the Garden of Life Raw Protein that I was talking about in the beginning.  It's funny I was thinking Garden of Life had an acquired taste too but I was getting used to it.  But now when I went back to taste this one I think it actually tastes better than Garden of Life.  Go figure!  LOL  :-)   I'm already acting like a post op with my taste buds changing.  LOL!

Now I have to try the Chocolate Raspberry and the Vanilla bean flavors.  Good idea about adding peppermint or almond abstract.

Thanks for all your info!  Have a good day.

Glad it tastes better to you now.  The flavorings I use are sweetened with fake sugars, I found them in the coffee isle and at coffee specialty stores.  Helps change things up a bit.  YUM.
