There are ways to get in your cardio without having he high impact on your knees that running gives you.  I would suggest, as others have, an eliptical or similar.

Also, I know for me, I have pain in my knees whenver I get over 250...each time I drop below that I start to feel some releif on my knees (not all the pain is gone, but most).  I wouldn't give up on trying yet, but I would see a doctor and skip the high impact exercises until you lose a bit more.  You will get there, don't rush!!

My knees before only hurt once in a while Ive lost a total so far of 110 lbs but they are hurting now.
( I think its b/c I tried to "RUN" outside like a dumb ass) lol I will stick to the treadmill. I don't want to run forever I just want to do a 5K to say I did one and that is something in my life time wouldn't see myself doing at all, its more about pride but I don't want to mess up my knees in the process  I'm going for a x-ray sometime next week. Thanks I think for now Id better stick to a fast walk!

I have horrible knee joints.

Losing 140lbs took away my chronic daily pain, but under no cir****tance can I do heavy running, lunges, squats, or any other "knee bearing" exercises without pain, and major swelling within an hour or so.

Arthritis is not something that can be reversed, it can be improved with weight loss, and of course, I don't hurt every day, or with other workouts, but the damage is done from years of being fat. I have had 2 extensive ACL surgeries on my left knee, a full ACL replacement back in 93, and then another "clean up" surgery in 1999, my ACL replacement is torn again, but my ortho surgeon wouldn't touch it because I was too fat. My cartilage is shot, and most of it was removed in 99 due to extensive damage. Essentially, my left knee is bone on bone. So, I did almost a year of physical therapy back in 99 to strengthen the muscles in my thigh and calves to support the weight, and take pressure off my knee. Now, my right hip is arthritic because for so many years I walked and put more weight on my right side to keep from hurting my knee again and avoid pain.

I have never enjoyed running, I think I look like Phoebe running from the Friend's episode when her and Rachel start running together in the park.  And, ellipticals hurt my knees and hips more than walking/lunges for whatever reason. The pool aerobics work wonders!

All is well. Ashton arrived on 9/26, and we are all trying to adjust to another infant in the house. Tatum will be 1 on 30 October so planning her 1st birthday party and working on getting decent sleep.

Overall, we're doing great for the most part.

That's why I go for the elliptical machine because a former runner told me after he had been in the service and done marathons and had his ACL repaired his knees were very painful and he is half my age.

I LOVE the elliptical, I'm looking into buying one myself.  Just haven't found the time or money right now!

Ugh! Injuries really **** me off too!

But seriously - see an ortho Dr. and see what is going on with your knee! You want to be sure that you don't do permanant damage if there is something wrong..at the same time you it could be another part of you body causing the knee pain (like IT band tightness) that could be resolved with the right exercise or stretching regime and that should be addressed before it causes problems with activities other than running. Being obese really throws our body/joints/muscular structure out of whack! Either way - consult a professional to figure out what is going on and the proper course to take to resolve this!! Good luck!

It could be your shoes, it could be your form, it could be any number of things. If you really want to run and are serious about it you need to have someone evaluate your form and foot falls to tell you what you are doing wrong, and if you need a different kind of shoes. You might also have damage from being overweight for a long time, see a doctor and go from there.

My advice for now would be to ease off the running, sounds like you might be doing too much too fast and that can be a problem too.
