So I get on the Treadmill and do my 5 min walk warm-up then I start to RUN! Well I run for about 10-15mins and popped 2 tylon. b/c my knee started hurting again.  I am so pissed like almost cried I wanted to make myself run and I had to walk w pain b/c it hurt really bad.

Does that pain go away or is it all the years of being over weight that's going to stop me?  My personal goal for my self is to run a 5K one day... It doesn't have to be anytime soon I'm not trying to in-press anyone I'm trying to save my life.  I want this so bad.  Who would have thought 6 months ago I would be wanting to exercise much less run! :(  Will ICE my knees and try again tomorrow. Any suggestions??

Water! You can work out in water it takes the pressure off your knee.

Yes, stop running.  Seriously, stop.  You could do permanent damage to your knees. Use the elliptical or rowing machine to do your cardio.  If you have any issues at all with knees, running is one of the worst things you can do.  Unless you are OK with needing surgery down the road, pick a cardio activity that does not have such an impact on your knees.

Got to a knee specialist and have them find out what is going on.  Then ask them to prescribe physical therapy for your knees.  Let a trained professional analyze what's going on and see if you can strengthen them.

Check into some deep water aerobics.  I have bad knees and these are great.  I never run now.

Take your time girl!!! The last think you want to do is mess up your knee... If you have to walk for awhile that is fine

I started doing the C25K last year and then decided that I would wait until I'm only 20-30 pounds overweight before doing that again,  not 150 pounds overweight.  So now I walk and sometimes speed walk.

Thanks... I think I'm going to maybe try again in a few days, I don't want to mess my knees up and not be able to at least walk! I so want to run thou I have never been able to even when I was on the skinny side 12 years ago.  I was suppose to get x-ray of them before VSG just to see what they looked like and never did I think I'm calling tomorrow!

Hi,look up exercise to strengthen knees for running. My knees started hurting like crazy when I started running.I found this book about doing 10 k and in it is this very simple exercise.

You sit on a hard surface, chair.lift your leg, while bent in sitting position, just a little off the chair. Now keep it there and straighten your leg. Then bend the leg.dont drop upper leg back onto chair ( must be lifted just a little).Do this in sets of 12 or 15 one leg at a time or start with as many as you can manage and increase your sets over time.Really? It seems so simple.

We joked about this simple exercise a lot but it has made all the difference in my knees. It apparently strengthens the muscles and ligaments around the knee that you need for running.

I am still heavy but can run about 4 k without any problem before running out of breath and having to walk for a few minutes before running again.

Do see your dr but this have really helped me a whole lot.And my 52 year old friend with short stubby legs and a waddle like a duck because of sore stiff knee as well..lol
