HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   I need ideas on how to make my protein shake good.  I am only a week out of surgery so i can put anything with sugar inside my protein shake but what can I do.  I am not drinking the powder I am drinking the all ready mixed one called Premier Prottein (vanilla) I hate it. I tried mixing it in my suger free pudding.  It was horrible.  I tried mixing the Isopure fruit punch flavor into my fat free yougurt.  The yougurt is nasty.   I dont know what to do.  HELP ME.. My protein intake is to low because I hate the protein shake.

I am still pre-op but here are a couple protein's that I like or don't mind drinking:

Oh Yeah- This is ready mixed. I have tried chocolate, it is my favorite ready mix so far. I would drink this if I needed something on the go.

Unjury- Chocolate Splendor- this is my favorite chocolate powder. I blend it with some PB2 (powdered peanut butter for extra protein-5mgs in  2 tbpls). I also blend with soy or almond milk, that will increase your protein number in one drink.
It tastes like a reese pb cup. This is a favorite combo protein drink.

Unjury- Chicken Soup- this is MY ALL TIME FAVORITE- I drink this willingly. This has 21gms of protein for 8oz. It tastes like chicken soup broth, seriously.

Unjury is 21gms of protein for 8oz. The Oh Yeah comes in 8 (18gm protein)  and 14 oz bottles.

Good luck!

Try the premier chocolate. Its less sweet than the vanilla and really good. To my taste buds anyway. Tastes like chocolate milk.

When I was early out, one of the only protein supplements I could stand was Bariwise Hot Chocolate. :)  It's pricey, but so worth it.  It tastes like yummy hot chocolate and has great stats.    I also tolerated a few RTD kinds.   When I got sick of sweet, I liked using unjury chicken broth (which is chicken free -LOL!) for something more savory.  You can even add the unjury chicken broth to your own favorite broth for extra savoriness.  Bu****ch out... the sodium content is really high, so if you are sensitive to that it is better to skip.

I don't know if you are a coffee drinker, or if you are allowed coffee this early out... but I am not totally hooked on protein coffee!  I make iced decaf coffee and shake in some protein in my shaker bottle.  I like the Cellucor brand from GNC, which was recommended to me here.  It's also pricey, but mixes really nicely.  You can experiment with all different flavors and brands of protein - and you can also add some sugar free torani syrup for extra sweetness and flavor if you like.

Good luck!  It's an expensive endeavor to find a protein shake that you like, that's for sure.  I hope you hit the protein shake jackpot soon.

Nutshell:

Lost 140 lbs with VSG. (Hooray!!)

In summary: Alive & Grateful.

I am one week postop also. None of the protein that I liked preop tastes good now. I liked Unjury chicken soup preop and can't stand the smell of it now let alone taste it. I have 3 flavess ors protein shakes and I can only drink two of them right now...Matrix Mint Cookie and Matrix Banana Cream. It is a very personal choice because if your taste buds have changed like mine, nothing tastes really good right now. I guess that is the point! Keep trying different things until you find something that is at least acceptable for now because it will get better. Have you tried unflavored protein powder in your favorite crystal light? That is another way to get protein. Make jello and add the unflavored protein while you are stirring and before the jello sets in fridge. Do that with pudding that you make too. Best wishes.

You might want to try ordering a sample pack of the Syntrax Nectars.  My favorite was the Fuzzy Navel, but I added a little extra orange tangerine Mio to it.  I also ordered a big jug of the Syntrax orange cream (again I add extra Mio to it) and it's been going down really easily.  I did't like the vanilla premier at all...but the chocolate is good. Oh...and the unflavored Unjury worked great for me first thing post op...I could add it to anything and really didn't taste it in what I added it to.  That might be something to try.  Hope you find something that you can handle.

If you have a Wal-Mart near.....and who doesn't.  try the Pure Protein Frosty Chocolate RTD. It comes in a 4 pack and if you don't like it your not out much $$$.

My fav powder protein mix is Body Fortress. Wal-Mart sells the big tub for $14.99. I think the best one is the Cookies and Cream. I've also tried the chocolate, peanut butter chocolate and vanilla, which I think are all tasty and not too sweet. I don't have to make myself like them. The only one I wasn't into was the strawberry.

I've been on a major greek yogurt kick lately. I have to have it everyday. I buy the Fage 0% plain. I either mix a scoop of the protein mix in about 4 oz of the yogurt (26g protein from the powder+11.5 grams protein in 4oz yogurt=37.5 grams protein in 1 meal!) and add some sugar free syrup, splenda and maybe sometimes a lil sugar free pudding mix. It really feels like you are eating a dessert.

I also buy stawberries, cut them up and put them in a ziplock back with a few packs of splenda. Once I shake them up and they are sweetened, I add the into my yogurt mix. It's amazing. I sometimes add granola if I don't add the protein mix.

Cookies
I mix either flavor of protein powder with splenda, an egg or two, peanut butter (if i use chocolate powder), raisins, chopped almonds, and old fashioned oatmeal  and bake delicious protein cookies.

I have definitely grown to love these protein powders!
