Liquid diet

The fruit juices making you want to have more sugar makes complete sense.  Sugar is sugar, whether in fruit juice, cola, or chocolate.  For me, fruit juice has an even more severe effect than the others, giving me a quick sugar high, and then dropping my blood sugar so quickly I need another "fix.'  If you need carbs, those lower on the glycemic index will give you more sustained energy, and will likely reduce the cravings.

 Agree with 7cats here-

Drop the juices, a giant nutrional void for the calories.  Pay VERY close attention to how many carbs you consume at one time.  I alternate 15 net carbs (snack) and 30 net carbs.  This keeps my off the insulin roller coaster and keeps cravings at bay.  I struggle with Cream of Wheat- always leaves me hungry.  I am just now adding it back in the diet to help with the iron deficieincy, but if I could avoid it i would.

Educate yourself on the glycemic index.  This along with exercise and tracking food is what got me to goal.  Good luck on your journey!

M y daughter had to do 3 weeks also.  They told her if she got under 50 bmi she would only have to do 2 weeks.  She did but, they made her do 3 any way.  I knew her and that she wouldn't make it without cheating.  So, I helped her.  Based on the reason for the diet and that I GAINED on it coming off Atkins, I had her add a chicken breast every night for dinner to the shake only diet.  The first week she had a 4/6oz breast and the second 3/4 and the third week she did the shakes only.  They didn't even blink as she did so well and the liver looked great.

You "helped" your daughter by encouraging her to go against doctor's orders and off plan?  You may want to examine this.

Sure did!  Long story, long relationship with our center and staff!  I know what she would have done otherwise!

Awesome that you are working now to adjust your eating patterns- can't recomend that enough!

Word of caution- not all protein shakes are created equal.  If you get a hold of a higher calorie version it could undermine the progress.  Many here go with Pure Protein found at Sams or Costco.

The plain yogurt can be blucky- try adding some sugar free Torani syrup found in the coffee section.  Much better that way!

Good luck!

The pre op diet is HARD... Really hard. I really think you should try and follow your doctors plan. He/She is not doing this to punish you. It is for your health and for safer surgery. I had a 3 week liquid diet and am also pretty active with a 5 year old, full time job, and a family I still cooked for. I swear it is do-able and you wont die from it. You may feel tired and hungery but in the end it will be worth it. Jarabacoagirl--a dry run is awesome. Just keep in mind that when you get closer to go time it will probally be easier then now. It took me at lest 3 or 4 days after the start of the liquid diet to get into the routine of things.... And to feel like I could actually do it. I wish you much sucess!

This is because it takes 3 or 4 days for our blood sugar to balance out.  So the first 3 to 4 days everyone says is murder.   I'm doing it though too because I've had a little too many food funerals and have gained weight.  I think I'm not supposed to gain before surgery or surgery maybe cancelled.
