Anyone preop have fear of taking off all that time off work for surgery recovery?

If all goes well (this is surgery) 10 day and you should be more then ready to go. I felt great within the first week.
What about vacation time coming? That can be an option as well.

I was out 3 weeks because of an extensive hiatal hernia repair and then went back to work. I then got a stomach virus the second day I was back and my dr put me back out for another week. I would've been fine going back after 2 weeks though but because I work in a food production plant around alot of equipment and am up moving alot I thought I should take the extra week to get a bit stronger. If I'd had a desk job it would've been fine.
I had vsg 9/27/12 I have an office job, but I have a stressful office job, and I'm taking three weeks because thank goodness I have the leave stored up and a supportive job. That said, I could probably be at the office and doing the bare minimum of work right now and I might even be thankful for something to distract me from the soft diet...
BUT I wouldn't unless I really felt I had to, cause you just never know. My procedure went super well. I was completely off pain meds 24 hours before I was discharged from the hospital (only there two days), never had any trouble getting down liquid or protein (no physical problem anyway) have been very nauseous exactly once since being home and I STILL spiked a dangerous fever after my first day out in public for just a few hours and I have no idea why. And I'm a lightweight in her mid twenties with no other serious health problem.
Things I would personally be worried about by going back too soon:
-stress affecting my immune system
-being exposed to people who are sick
- having to wear clothes that rub against my incisions (good way to get an infection)
- Sweating in my incsions cause I cant control the temperature in the office (another good way to get an infection)
- accidentally picking something up that's too heavy
-forgetting to eat and drink
- getting jostled during the commute ( I take public transportation in a major city)
I think 4 weeks is too conservative, but I would definitely take at least two weeks if it were me. I'd at least let my incisions close completely and if I went back early I would do the bare minimum to keep work moving along.

They seem to be very admant about the no driving for 2 weeks. So if you can afford two weeks, I would do at least that. I am taking 6 weeks. First, I get my full salary while out on disability. I am having it run concurrently to FMLA. The rules of my job just end up working like this. I was originally written out for 4 weeks, but the surgeon cannot see me until I am 6 weeks out so I will be out for 6 weeks.

Yes I am. My job gives us 12 days a year of sick time, but if we use them they want a dr note & they will even visit the dr office to make sure it's legit. I have been passed over for a promotion cause I took sick leave when I was in the hospital a couple of yrs ago. I hired a lawyer. I plan on doing the surgery while out on vacation, but if their are complications I am in trouble. Good luck to you.

I took 6 weeks off. That was my nurse manager's idea actually. I am Nurse Assistant, and we do some heavy lifting, and as the only guy currently on my unit, i get used and abused. I had Sick time off with pay. I filled my FMLA paper work and returned to work after almost 6 weeks. i worked for about 15 days off.
It may sound like a lot but i think it is right if your job is very physical. most of our patients are dead weight and we are expected to give the highes level of care no matter what. so if i was gonna do that, i had to be 100% better.
i think if you have an office job, you will be ok after 2 or 3 weeks of recovery.
