Is this a side affect of the surgery for some?

Our livers do all of the heavy lifting of breaking down the fat in our bodies.  That results in a lot of garbage that can collect in the gall bladder.  Its common for surgeons to prescribe actigall for 6 months after surgery to help prevent that.

Its more a side effect of the rapid weight loss, not necessarily the surgery itself.

Yeah I noticed a lot of ppl having to get them removed.  I'm like thinking I don't want 2 surgeries 1 is enough.

Talk to your surgeon about the risk and see what his experience is and what he thinks your risk is given your history.  Ask about the actigall (generic: ursodiol).

I've read that some doctors remove the gallbladder during WLS surgery.  But that is definitely something to talk to your doctor about.

I had my gallbladder removed when I had lost 60lbs in 7 weeks and developed gallstones.  My gallbladder surgery was also 3 months after I had a cesarean where I was put under general anesthesia.  Sometimes you just don't have a choice when it comes to things like this.  The gastric sleeve was my 6th abdominal surgery and hopefully my last!

Edited to say that I had my gallbladder removed prior to WLS.

It's sounding more and more like a good idea.  It's worrying me that it will be a problem.  I have seen post after post on here about it.    I already feel pain in that area anyway sometimes.  It maybe IBS I'm not sure.  I think I'm gonna make an appt with my surgeon and talk to him about it.    I hope you feel better soon and have a quick recovery.

I just called a nurse at my surgeons' office and was told that it's not removed unless they see stones in the abdominal ultrasound.  Which they did not in my case.  They prescibe a medicine that's supposed to lower the risk from 52% to 3%.  Where you prescibed anything?  She said that some patients find it difficult to take the medicine because it can upset your stomach.
