Pre-op diet & work rant

Haha, pre-op and the first 5 five weeks post were a total head trip.
Pysically? Yes. It was worse than I thought right after surgery.
Honestly, I just wasn't mentally prepared for how bad I felt after surgery. Woke up in recovery with TERRIBLE burning in throat, vomitted stomach acid - the heartburn and nausea were unrelenting for the first 72 hours.
I had had my wisdom teeth out, my gallbladder out, lap band in, then ER surgery to have it out...
So I had gone through many surgeries in the past and had always done well. Little pain or nausea or anything...I guess I was just surprised by the VSG it hit me like a bus.
But, I was walking within a couple hours. I asked to go for walks whenever the nurse came in to check on me. That spared me from having any gas pain.
And after the first 72 hours it dramatically improved. I felt better and better each hour.
Sleeep. Rest. Go slow. Walk, walk, walk.
And just know that it gets better and this short-term pain is so, so, so, SO worth it.
Hang in there. Fight on. You're gonna do great!

So post-op sleeve I got no morphine. Still had some nausea but nothing like after the hyssy. Only spent one night at the hospital, went home not feeling great, but feeling better at home than at hospital, and by day three was getting better gradually, day four felt pretty good, able to drink two or three protein drinks with no probs, plus some soup, etc.
From that point forward, each day was better and better.
Some people have a really rough time. Others don't.
Everybody is different. You're smart to brace yourself for the worst and maybe things won't be so bad. If they are? It won't last!
Good luck!
So sory that you have to work before your pre-op diet. I had a wonderful experience with my surgery, and heartily recommend it to anyone. I didn't have any problems with leaks, pain or difficulty with my intubation. Not only did I not have to have a nasal gastric tube, but I also didn't have to have a drain put in. I went into it with a wonderful attitude, and I think it really reflected in my recovery. Embrace this wonderful gift that you are giving yourself and don't let it mess with your head. Try to erase all of the anxiety and negative thoughts. By next year this will all be a memory and you will be on your way to being more healthy!
