My sister is looking into the VSG  as an option for her.

I was wondering if anyone out there had Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana  and if they had a hard time getting thes surgery approved.
thanks in advance!

I have BCBS of Louisiana and I was selected for their weight loss study earlier this year and they paid for the entire surgery.  Now, the plan book that I have states that it will not cover any surgery related to weight loss.  This may not apply to all agencies in LA.  I was one of the lucky 200 to get chosen for this 5 year study.  Have she applied for it yet?

She just started looking into it and has not applied yet. I hope her insurance does cover it so she does not have to pay out of pocket.
I am glad you were selected for the study, and hope all is well with you.I would have been running up and down the street after hearing such good news. when was your surgery??

i hope her BCBS does cover it, I have cigna and they specifically state that  (at least our plan) does not cover Bariatric surgery.. but im right there with you lucky boat,  the hospital that i work for has a clause that as long as the surgery is done within the hospital system we work for, then it covers 90%... :D     it is restrictive as far as having options, since only one hospital and only one doc is currently approved to do the surgery for us. but it is still a blessing and the doctor which they picked of course is top notch and I culdnt have asked for a better surgeon.
thanks for the feedback

I sure hope she gets approved!  That was such a wonderful feeling to get accepted into the study.  My surgery was on June 12th and as of today I'm down 60 lbs and 4 dress sizes...yay!!!  I feel wonderful and have been getting a lot of compliments and stares...lol!  Even when I reach a stall I'm still losing inches.  How have things been going for you?

thats amazing!! i am very happy for you, its great to hear other peoples stories.
mine was in may 17 so im about to hit the 4 month mark and i am about 65 pounds  lost. i lost the first 45 (could be 50) way before the 2 month mark and the last 15 pounds or so have been in the last 4-5weeks. i kinda stalled a little but i am ok with that. i know the surgery works and i can tell a difference already. same thing here with clothes i have not worn in years, and people pulling me to the side and asking me my secret. but its no secret at all. i did what had to be done.

Good Morning,

I too reside in Louisiana, also have BCBS of La, and they continue to not support weight loss surgeries, but I read  you were chosen to participate in a weight loss study, does this study still exist, or how can i get information about it?  I've tried so many options, nothing seems to work, and with my medical condition I am typically a "walking time bomb", any day will explode.  If its not any trouble, can you please provide me with some information.  Thanks so much!

Good morning,

The name of the study is Heads Up and it is being administered by Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge.  I'm not sure if they are still accepting participants or not.  It won't hurt to contact them and see.  I was very blessed to get accepted into this study.  It has been a life saver for me.  Try contacting your insurance or Pennington to see if it's still available.  Good luck!!!!
