I don't cook. My husband does. I eat a lot of leftovers If I cannot find anything or don't want it, I grab a frozen meal from barigoodfood.com and use that. I know the owner and her stuff is really good, the right portions with the right nutrition.

Thanks for this suggestion about barigoodfoodcom I'm looking at the website right now. I will probably use this for sure. I like the fact that they even have the option to puree your food. (Like for new post ops) Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I will give it a try. :-) P.S. Do you know where they are located or if they have local distibutors in PA anywhere?

No, I think the commercial kitchen is in the Austin area. The shipping is a little high, but they ship it very well and it comes so it won't melt or anything. I usually order $150 worth at a time or so and store it in my freezer so the shipping is worth it. It's well worth it for me because some days I just can't figure anything out and if left to my own devices, who knows what I'd eat. LOL. My faves are the chicken white bean soup and the sausage bake. Their broths are really good too. I wish they had that when I was a new post op because I remember breaking down completely. The only thing I don't really like is the stuffed pepper.

Good to know about the stuffed pepper.  I'm not a fan of them anyway.  lol :-)  Do the broths have anything in them or are they completely clear.  Another words would I be able to use them that firist week in the clear liquid phase?

They are clear/strained, perfect for those first weeks of hell :). The seafood one is a bit strong smelling (but I love the smell of seafood, if you don't a heads up!)

I tend to keep the following in my freezer at all times. Turkey sausage, Turkey Mignon (turn oven on put on baking sheet and set timer), Bag of grilled chicken strips or diced chicken great for salad, Any kind of fish. If I see something like Macadamia crusted Tilapia in the freezer section I grab it. I also buy any seasoned fresh fish that has been marked down and toss it in the freezzer. I cook but I'm also a stay ar home mom. I need something quick and healthy for lunches and dinner sometimes too.I buy the frozen steamer bag vegetables and bags of salad too. I also keep muscle milk 8.25oz with the straw on hand. Snacks/lunches I always have turkey pepporoni slices and snack sticks, cheese and jerky around to grab. Eggs to make egg salad, hard boiled eggs and scrambled eggs. You can make the super easy egg muffin cups and refridgerate them or freeze them. Grab and go food.

I've found that being sleeved has actually simplified my cooking a good deal. I do cook, but many of the things that work for me also freeze super well in Fred sized portions. Right now I have several 1/2 cup containers each of turkey taco meat, chicken curry, salmon chowder and chicken stew in the freezer. As long as the food is very moist Fred can handle 1/2 cupful and my dog is always eager to help out if I'm too full to finish.

Meat needs to be easy to chew and very moist to go down easily, so crock potted or braised are generally your best bets. That said, I make killer baked salmon that we love cold the next day, either on it's own or topping a salad. (I can handle anywhere from 1/2 to 1 cup of salad greens with 1-2oz of salmon or 1oz of chicken on top.

On the day after that any leftover salmon becomes chowder.

What level of cooking are you willing/able to do? Do you just need a nudge with some basic recipes or do you need easy/quick/minimal effort meals?

Easy/quick/minimal effort includes rotisserie chicken on bagged salad, shrimp with ****tail sauce and raw veg from Costco,, frozen seasoned chicken breasts that can be popped into the George Foreman grill to cook while you dump bagged salad into a bowl, frozen turkey meatballs you can dump into a crockpot, pour pasta sauce or salsa over and leave to simmer while you're at work.

A step beyond those things often starts with me cutting up and sautéing boneless, skinless chicken breasts. Once that's done they go in the crockpot with pasta sauce, mushroom soup, curry powder and basil, Patak's mild curry paste or butter chicken paste and some water (Greek yogurt to be added toward the end), diced tomatoes and Chana masala seasoning, salsa, or whatever else pops into my head. Because the chicken simmers in a sauce it's very tender and moist, and all I need to do at mealtime is steam some veg.

Just so you know I'm still preop.  My level of cooking is about level zero sadly.  I can get a rosterie chicken eat with raw veggie (prewashed)  I can get precooked shrimp with coctail sauce.  Only I imagine that there's things may not be soft enough unitl I'm post op for serveral months right?
My idea of cooking is frying eggs and making a fried egg sandwhich.  Other than that it's microware dinners, salads and eat and go food such as greek yogurt or cheese sticks or veggie sticks, and fruits.etc
