Looking for Low Carb High Protein meals (pre-made or frozen dinners)

I'm still preop but I'm thinking ahead here.  My scedule tends to be hectic and I'm definitely not a cook.  In fact i hate cooking.  Most of the time my husband and I eat premade meals.  (like Organic frozen dinners, Wegman's $6 meals, premade salads stuff like that, Trader Joe's premade meals etc.)  I am thinking way ahead here.  Obviously during the liquid, puree, soft food stages I'm going to have to prepare my own stuff.  But after that once on solid foods.  Does everyone on here really cook?  Are there any suggestions as far as premade frozen dinners that have high protein low carb?  I know South beach diet used to have them but I don't see them anymore in the grocery store.  Any suggestions?  I heard someone on here mention something about Eat Rite a mail order kind of thing but I see all there meats are made from soy and I can't have too very much soy.  So I'm looking for other suggestions.  I know I'm not the only one in the world that doesn't like to cook or have time to cook.  lol :-)

I'm not a cook either, by any stretch of the imagination, but my suggestion would be to steer away from the frozen dinners. Even without factoring in whether or not they fit into any particular food plan, they are usually extremely high in sodium. Not to mention that most foods cooked in a microwave, which is how I tend to heat up those kinds of meals when I would have them preop, are just too tough, since foods tend to dry out when you microwave them... which means they would be hell on my sleeve and I wouldn't get very much out of them.

Why not find some crock pot recipes instead? That way you can throw all the ingredients in a crock pot one morning, then that evening you can put just the right portion sizes into little gladware type containers and have them ready to go whenever you need them? They'd hold up better through micorwaving too, since most crock pot recipes involve using some kind of liquids in the pot... the liquid would help retain moisture in the meat.

If you google "low carb crock pot recipes," I bet you'll get tons of great ideas

At this point i don't feel well enough to even use the crookpot. Standing in the kitchen for more than a two minutes kills me. knees, ankles and feet are all bad due to my weight. Maybe that will change once I loose some weight but I'm trying to figure out how I can loose some weight first. So the sleeve really can't handle dry foods? Is that just in the beginning or is that the case even far out post op?

I'm almost 5 months out, and I still can't handle meats nuked in a microwave without something to keep them moist.

The whole reason I suggested the crock pot is because most of those recipes don't require a lot of time in the kitchen... almost all of the ones I've found literally just require me dumping everything in the crock pot and turning it on... usually not even involving any kind of prep work.  Then I can forget about it until I'm ready to eat it or pack it away for later.

Guess I'm gonna have to force myself to cook whether i like it or not.  So if you reheat the crookpot dinners in the micro they do turn out moist enough??

Like I said before, I find that I can microwave portions of foods cooked in crock pots for a short time because usually there is a lot of liquid of some kind in whatever recipe you used.  That liquid helps to keep it moist enough... but even then I wouldn't heat it for more than about 15 seconds at a time (which is probably plenty in the portions we eat anyways).

Keep in mind too that early out you won't be eating much at a time... for my first few months of solid food, about 1-2 oz of dense protein was all I could do at a time, depending on the meat and how tender it was, among other variables.

I agree with the previous post too!  I'm single and not much of a cook.  But I can do crock pot recipes.  I found a lot of great crock pot recipes on Pinterest!

Im going to give you my honest opinion here.

WLS is about more than just losing weight and eating less. To truly be successful, get to goal, and maintain a healthy weight and remain free of many of the co-morbidities we usually suffer from (high BP, high cholesterol, diabetes) - you are going to have to change your lifestyle. Obviously what you've been doing up to this point hasnt worked.

I am as far from a cook as one can get. I never cooked before I started this jounrey unless it was a grilled cheese, mac and cheese, or frozen dinners in the oven.

However, I now force myself to prepare my foods. You wont find me making any crazy recipes (2-3 ingredients is usually my limit for cooking anything). However, I have to make myself and my health a priority and frozen, processed food is not healthy - period. In a crunch - fine. Occassionaly - ok. But you shouldn't rely on it as a life style. Most of us used the excuse for way too long that we were just too tired or didnt have enough time to justify poor choices. It is time to kick ALL excuses to the curb.

I cook one day a week and prepare my food for the week. It is a 2-3 hour investment Sunday nights. Most of meals take 20 minutes to prepare and I make a couple of them to just throw in the fridge. I do eat a lot of simple things like deli meat/cheese, cottage cheese, greek yogurt, as snacks b/c they dont involve cooking, but I do cook my main meals.

Just my opinion. To be honest, even when I have a horrible week, this life style serves as a back up plan when my will power fails because all my food is ready and I dont have to muster up the strength to chose between eating out/eating processed food and eating my healthy food.

I love cooking...never ate a frozen pre prepared storebought dinner or anything. I don't even use canned tomatos for my bolognaise or marinara sauces. I dice up fresh tomatos, usually not even from the supermarket but from my garden or farmer's markets. I cook everything..breakfast, lunch, dinner...mostly organic, not vegetarian but a lot of veggies, fish, chicken, meat, you name it. And I use healthy fats like olive, canola, flax, coconut oils, milk fresh from the cow, home made cottage cheese, yogurts, jams. I am not much of a baker aand can go without the sweet stuff but my daughter is. She makes lovely baked goods. We bake our own bread most of the time too. And here I am, 100 lbs overweight, HBP, diabetes, hyperlipedemia, achy joints...lymphedema developing from what I can see already and who knows what else. So I am actually worried about my cooking after I have surgery. I am worried that I will cook my way around it and that I won't lose an ounce, that I will keep making myself all these healthy lovely things and just eating all day long! My worry is actually how to keep myself out of the kitchen and away from the stove! I think I should go raw foods only or some such version of the paleo diet. I am sure if I start to cook post op I am going to be doomed.
