Hot flashes after eating, but I'm 25.

I'm 6 months out of surgery, and things are going well. I've noticed a strange symptom after I eat. I initially thought it was coincidental, but it's happening more frequently.

I have a meal, and then get a hot flash. Being 25 and never actually having experienced a real hot flash, I can only assume this is what one feels like. The heat starts in my cleavage, and behind my neck. It quickly spreads over my entire body. I sweat from my hands and feet and face. They last 15-20 mins. And it only happens 10 or so mins after I start eating. Not every time I eat, but at least 30% of the time, if not more.

Does anyone else have this? Anyone know what it is? Why does it happen?

Early out, I got hot, sweaty and shaky if I ate carbs on an empty stomach. It sucked big time. Taught me a lesson, though!

I'll be 6 weeks out tomorrow and I often have the same thing happen!  I've been wondering if it's a sign that I've eaten too much or if it's what I'm eating (although I eat pretty much the same thing all the time).

I'll watch to see if it's related to carbs.

I was getting those when I first started on soft foods.  I was told that I was eating too much and that the hot flash was the beginning stage of a dumping syndrome incident.

Don't know if that's true or not.  I started backing off a few bites sooner and the hot flashes went away.

I've had this happen a couple of times.... once was w/ a protein bar and it was due to high carb and high sugar alcohol in the bar as well as eating it too fast. The other time didn't think the food played a factor as much as  "eating too fast."

It is a horrible feeling.

Allie -

I see that you posted this a long time ago.  Did your issues go away?  I am now 3 years out from a VSG and apparently have esophagitis.  I am about to do a PH test this week.  I had no idea I had the problem - my doc did an endoscopy while doing a colonoscopy for another issue and says my surgery looks good, but my esophagus is inflamed.  I have had no issues OTHER THAN always getting hot flashes like you explained after eating just a few bites.  That has been happening almost constantly since I had the VSG in 2012.  I thought it was just normal and my signal to stop eating.  :-)
