I got mine the day before my surgery... The doctor said it wasn't a big deal.   The first day after surgery they would come in and help wtih the pad and everything.. The next day i was on my own.  It was kinda hard but you do what ya gotta do

I was on my period the day of surgery too. I was about day 3 or 4 and it was a heavy one. They've seen it all and I save them a pregnancy test LOL. I was given the pads and mesh undies to wear during surgery. It was no problem with my overnight stay. I would pee and apologize to whoever had to empty and let them know I was on my period not having bleeding from surgery issues. At home I used pads and it wasn't a big deal. I refused to reschedule the surgery just because of Aunt Flow!

I have four kids and after each birth they would give me these huge pads with no sticky on the bottom to kind of tuck between my legs since I couldn't wear underwear.   Since you have to walk I am sure they'll provide you with the mesh underwear as well.   If you think they might be too small I'd just bring your own "period" panties and stuff the hospital pads in them when you have to walk.  They are super long and super thick so they should do the trick!

Good luck!

I had my surgery Tuesday the 14 Th and I was on my period and mine is way heavy.

I let the nurse know and she told me if I wore my own they would have to rip them off when they put me under to put the cath in and then she went on to tell me that I could wear mesh undies and a pad and not to worry because this happens more often then not.

Later that day after surgery I was able to wear my own underwear and I brought my own heavy duty overnight pads.

So don't stress about it just let them know when you get there and it will all be worked out.

Good luck and speedy recovery

I think this where we're supposed to say that this is the blessing of being a woman
I am one day post op sleeve and hiatal hernia repair, second night in the hospital.  When I was checking in the prep nurse asked if I was on my period.  Thankfully, I'm not.  She said that if I were they would strap a diaper-like pad on and go on.  I dud read that if you are given heparin or love nix for blood thinning after the surgery that it can lead to heavier bleeding.  I'd recommend getting the book "Taking Control if Your Fertility.". Aside from being an awesome book if you are trying to get pregnant it is also an awesome book to prevent pregnancy without hormones, implants and condoms.  It teaches you to read the signs if your body to predict when you are ovulating and to figure out the secret of your cycle.  Good luck to you and your journey.
