This is TMI so don't read if you get grossed out easily.  My surgery has been postponed to later November or December as I found out I have sleep apnea so I have to get used to a Cpap and than after that be cleared by a pulmalogist.
Here's my question.  It's very hard for me to predict when my cycle will come on that far in advance.  I just wanted to ask if anyone has trouble with heavy periods endometriosis and if they still had there surgery while the period was at it's heaviest.  How did it go?  Does having a heavy period with heavy cramping during surgery cause additional complications?   Also I had abdominal surgery in the past and remember I couldn't wear underwear for a few days.  Does the hospital use something to contain the mess of the period if you can't wear your underwear and pads during surgery.    My concern is I'm so big in the waist I don't even know if the would have something like a depend would be large enough.  I'm a size 30 to 32 pants if it's very strechy as I get very bloated from IBS.  63 inch waist.

I can give you at least a little info about this.  I'm sure you'll get more advice too.

I have read on this board that the nurses can just put those chuck-type pads under you.  They deal with this all the time, so probably no big deal to them.  But ... it's after surgery that it takes a little more effort.

I can say that because I did have my period on my surgery day.  Thankfully it was towards the end and not very heavy.  When I told my OR nurse that and asked if I could use a tampon, she said No! but they have mesh panties you can wear.  I opted not to since it wasn't that bad.  Sorry -- I don't know how they size them.

But my bigger challenge was Day 2.  When I got out of bed and was walking, I didn't really even think about it.  And, yep, there it was running down my leg.  Ick!!!  My nurse didn't seem all that concerned and just kind of looked at me.  I said could I get some wipes of some sort and then I just went into the bathroom and cleaned up.

Isn't it annoying that we have to think about all this too???

my period is due Aug 28... I have fibroids, thus very HEAVY bleeding & clotting... my surgery is Aug 30... I will be damned if I let Aunt Flo ruin it for me...if anything, Im hoping the post-op drugs will get me thru most of it painless...

as I see it, dealing with body fluids is their job, they can pad me with those 1960's sanitary belts and 6 inch Kotex for all I care....I will wash my butt when I get out if I can, if not they and or my husband will help me... Im getting my surgery....

Yeah I 've thinking I shoudl get checked for fibriods too it's very very heavy like that.    I hope your surgery goes well.  Maybe the liquid diet will make your period come off scedule anyway or not at all.  Take care.

My period started the day I came home from the hospital, which was the day after surgery.  I didn't have any problems wearing my normal underwear.  The incisions are above your waistline, generally speaking, and they are so tiny that the elastic in underwear shouldn't irritate them.

Good luck!!

You won't be the first or the last with that problem AT ALL. THey will have something and if they don't, they will figure it out. They're nurses and doctors in a hospital. Don't worry.

I had my monthly pal, pretty heavy, on my day of surgery. I could wear a tampon during surgery, so they put a big pad under me and another between my legs. After surgery I was able to walk to the bathroom and put in a tampon. All was fine.
