So about this being cold all the time thing...
I have the same issue, too. At work I have my space heater on most of the time and a lot of the time a jacket, too, unless I am up walking around and then I am comfortable.
At home, I sit with a blanket on my lap when looking at the computer or watching TV. Again I am also fine when I am up and about cooking, cleaning, doing laundry or exercising.
This morning I even rode to work with the heat on in my car. It was only 70 degrees outside at that point, but it will reach 100 degrees by early afternoon.
I have always tended to be a little cold as I have almost always been slightly anemic, but the being colder is getting worse with the weight loss. I just had my blood checked within the last month and my iron was actually normal for once in my life, so that's not it for me anyway.
For now, I guess I will continue to use my heater and wear my jacket and listen to others comment "It's 100 degrees and you're wearing a jacket and got your heater on!"
I slept w/o covers, naked with a ceiling fan for 20+ years. Not anymore. I used to hate the summer. I never went out. Now summer is my favorite season and i love the heat. I bask in it.
I used to keep the air on 68. Now I barely can stand it on 74.
I live in Chicago, I dread the winter and that used to be my favorite season......I guess i better invest in a down coat.
Best,
Sharon
Now back to the post!
I am with you sisters! I freeze all day at work where they keep the AC on 70, I have two thermal blankets on the bed IN THE SUMMER at night, which I have to throw off now and then as sisterhood of the hot flashes passes through the room, and two seconds later I'm freezing again.
I'm okay with it all when I put on my size 10's instead of 24's and add the silkies under them in the winter (size medium don't you know! yay VSG!)
I'd still rather be cold that size 24!

I have been caught with the heater on high in my office when it was almost 100 degrees outside. It's a source of never-ending amusement to my coworkers.
Highest weight: 335 lbs, BMI 50.9
Pre-op weight: 319 lbs, BMI 48.5
Current range: 140-144, BMI 21.3 - 22
175+ lbs lost, maintaining since February 2012
But, yeah, I'm cold most of the time. I think I'm the only person in Dallas driving home with my air conditioner off and my windows rolled down when it's 106 outside, trying to defrost from the office.
Talk to your PCP about this - if this is a new thing then there's probably a little bit of reason to see a doctor.
I'm not scientist nor do I play one on TV but I'm pretty sure two things are at work on this business of being cold after this surgery.
First, there's the insulation properties of fat. Think about the critters in the ultra cold climates:
polar bears, seals, walruses, etc. LOTS of fat on them to keep them warm. When we have less fat, we are subject to becoming cold faster.
Second, there's the metabolic issue of fat burning -- our cells don't have to work as hard to move our smaller bodies around, so they produce less energy and less energy means less body heat.
I asked my doctor's nurse about it -- she had a great analogy. If you use your mixer to make whipped cream, it goes fast and doesn't generate much heat because the job gets done quickly. But if you mix cookie dough (MMMMMMMM cookies - but I digress) the mixer works harder and if you mix that dough long enough, you'll start to feel warmth coming from the mixer.
Anyway, I don't have that problem as yet -- I'm post menopausal (I mean SOOOOOOO post menopausal) that I don't deal with hot flashes -- never did, really. And I'm still a BIG girl with lots to lose, so maybe there will come a day when I feel chilled more often than not.
Not sure my explanation works, but it kinda makes sense????
I can crochet you an afghan -- keeps my hands busy doing something constructive rather than shoveling anything into my mouth! What colors?
Stay warm (they need a fireplace emoticon LOL)
