It has been an interesting couple of days so far; I don't think one can really understand "what" it is going to be like until you go through it and it seems to be a very individual journey although we collectively are on the same path.

My surgery went well, all thanks to God;  pain has been minimal and thus far I am tolerating water (although it sometimes hurts), sf popsicles and syntrax nectar. While I thought I was prepared and had done my homework about both the emotional and physical parts I have been humbled by the difficult time I am having emotionally....waves of emotion followed by calm; scared things are going to well physically, scared I am going to screw this up, scared I really don't know what I am doing etc etc etc

With that being said I want to thank you all again for your posts of encouragement, the wisdom you provide...for all that have gone before me and shared your experience I owe a debt of gratitude to you.

I had surgery on the 20th so I shared some of your feelings.  I was afraid as well but thankfully the vets on here are always willing to provide guidance based on their experience.

Take care! -Larry

I have asked myself these same questions and am one week away from my sleeve surgery.  I had the band 5 years ago yesterday and have gone back and forth for a couple of weeks as to whether or not I could be successful with yet another surgery.  I finally told myself that I have to be successful cause in my opinion this is my last shot.  If it does not work for me then I am done.  I have done my research, asked a million quesitons and this time have a support group of friends that are behind me including my parents who knew nothing of the lapband surgery 5 years ago.  I think this time I want skinny more than I want food and am willing to go without for a while to get there.  Best of luck on your journey and keep sharing your experience with us.

Hi

I am pretty much going through the same emotions right now.  I was sleeved on 7/24.

The surgery went as planned.. After surgery I was spitting up some blood and flem so they kept me a extra 24 hours.  Being 4 days out of surgery for the most part everything has returned to normal as far as my dailey activities.  I reseached everything about the surgery, procedure, and effects over the last  2 years and thought I knew everything about the sleeve.. Boy was I wrong.

My follow up is for this Tuesday and I have a list of questions for the surgeon.

KEEP THE HEAD UP!!  As I have been told it only gets easier from here.

My surgery was 7/24 home 7/25 although I wished I could have stayed longer the hospital environment was so much easier to get around in but I've worked it out. Pain was horrible for me the first two days...loved that morphine button...lol but after day two I had virtually no pain. Now it just feels like too many sit up or something...first post op is on the 2nd. The only questions I really have is about my sesitivity to smells that I have developed since surgery...everything smells bad. food, drinks peoples breath my dog all things that never bothered me now make me very nausous. Hope that is just a temp side effect. only on a liquid die****er, isopure, sf pops tried sf jello hated it. Very sleepy first couple of days but was really energized today even made it outside for a walk down my street today. They say it only gets easier from here so keep me posted!

Thanks for the feedback on your experience...the one thing that I can't tolerate the taste or smell is the ocean spray individual serving packet of cranberry grape (5 cal no carbs) and I just loved this before the surgery!!!  I will be on  liquids for 3 weeks. Take care and we'll have to keep each other updated. Barb

Thanks Barb and same to you. Im finding all kinds of interesting people on this message board its really great to have the support. Many of my close friends and family members have had bariatric surgeries over the years so I know what to expect for the most part but like everyone says each person is different. I had a great day today. I slept in kinda late but havent been back in bed yet. I was getting really tired of my bedroom. My dr didnt give me any sort of supportive wrap for my stomach but a few of my friends said it would change my life if I got one so I sent my boyfriend out to the medical supply store for one. One word amazing. If you dont have one get one. Its just a stretchy soft waist support that holds everything together giving me the support I need to get around easier and with less pain. I'm practically getting out of bed like before surgery already. I walked around my block today with no problems and was able to have friends and family over today and not feel like I was bed ridden.
take care!
