Quest Bars? Dont Understand
I'm a GnC member because I get my protein powder there. Gold card week the Quest bars are $24.99 with membership. I buy them by the case and receive an additional 20% off making them $19.99. I call ahead so that they have a Case waiting for me.
I eat one several times a week and find that the fiber really helps. Benefiber and other sipplemenys have carbs as well. I would rather eat a Quest bar and get 20 grams of protein as a bonus. It a great breakfast before exercise unless it's a long hike t which point I need more protein.
Broken into pieces, heated in the micro for 20 seconds softens it and makes it easier on Sleevie.
Some people are triggered by them. I personally forget about them and have never been tempted to go back for more. We are all different!

I, personally have eaten them through my "loosing" phase and have had no problems.
My favorite is the lemon pie. It seems refreshing after a hard work out. :)
As for carbs, I counted them as net carbs....it was the only food I did/and do though, may sound hypocritical, but I felt that this one (food) fiber for me was important and all other foods counted as carbs no matter what the fiber content is.......not to add more confusion!! lol
I guess my reasoning is -they are a good source of protein and the only protein bar I eat, and I usually only have them on days that I have worked out too.
Great to know about GNC, that is awesome! Thanks Lee
Best wishes

i have always counted the total carbs, but even with my one quest bar per day, I am usally in the 40 -50 range. I too did not know you could get them at GNC. The Vitamin Shoppe here had a few of the flavors, and he said they swll out of them quickly. I don't crave other carbs when II eat these; just the opposite, I think it alllows the sweetness in just the right amount.
I never did the net carbs thing - a carb is a carb to me. Heres the thing about fiber - there is really two types. Soluble fiber and insoluble fiber. Insolubel is not proken down in the digestive tract and is used as bulk for your intestines to "push" against. You know how that comes out.
Soluble fibers can be broken down and do result in calories being absorbed. This can vary widely from person to person - depending on the flora in your gut. Some recent studies have shown that the flora in the intestines of obese people actually break down more materials than skinny people, which has resulted in some people having fecal transplants to lose weight. Don't ask.
In the US we are not required to report the type or ammount of fiber on nutrition labels - just fiber. You could be getting 23g of soluble fiber that will be 23g of craving causing carbiness. You could be getting 23g of fiber that will help you move smoothly.
That said, the quest bars, by all accounts, are pretty good. I'd still treat a carb as a carb. I bought a dozen but haven't eaten any of them yet. I have them on hand for travel emergencies if I can't eat on schedule. I much prefer to get my calories from and my protein from food if I can.

carb counting can be confusing. i always counted net but i think my dietician thinks otherwise. but i didn't eat bread potatoes etc and still don't.
Had my first Quest bar a couple weeks ago since i live in a rural area where i can't find them. Not bad but I think they were kind of stale. I like Power Crunch bars better though they have less protein. I eat one for breakfast on days i have to leave the house early.
one of these days i am going to invent my own low carb protein bar so i know exactly whats in it. Diane

There are some recipes online to make your own protein bars. This is one I've tried (and she has others too). It wasn't bad. My eggs were from my own chickens, and bigger than store eggs I think so it was a little more cake like than bar like. I think I might add more cinnamon if I made them again. Oh, and that almond meal/flour is not cheap!:
