Went to one at six months out. Only protein served were burgers and dogs. Went for the burger - couldn't eat it. Took one bite and couldn't even swallow it. I just knew. Went back and got a dog. Had a few bites - have to admit it was kind of nasty....and believe me I loved a good dog.... ended up getting really bad queasy stomach from the dog.

I can't recommend either choice to  you. Maybe there will be some deviled eggs or sliced deli meats for sandwiches or something like that!

I am finding these answers to be very interesting.  Tonight at only about 7 weeks out I had a hot dog.  The trick was though that it was a Trader Joe's Uncured Chicken Hot Dog.  It tasted great.  One hot dog is only 2 ounces.  It has 60 calories, 2.5g fat, 250mg sodium (not bad for a hot dog), 1g carbs, 9g protein.

Granted you would get a bit more protein in 2 oz of burger but when you are taking a burger off the grill and you need to figure out what 2 oz is ... not so convenient.  These uncured chicken hot dogs were very tasty and you take one dog and it's pretty much what everyone would consider the perfect portion.  For those of you that can eat 4 oz ... you can have two hot dogs.

I realize that most of you were making your opinions on beef or pork hot dogs but this chicken hot dog tasted very close to what I remembered hot dogs to taste like.

On a side note the Trader Joe's brand also is nitrite and nitrate and preservative free.  You really can't beat that.  Eight hot dogs and I think it was under $4.  That is .50 cents a meal and not loaded with calories and really for a hot dog this is low sodium as well.  The other packages I was looking at had sodium levels in the 500-700 range.

I am so happy to have found this hot dog.  It works well on the soft food stage which is where I am currently.

Hi, I may to new to this new lifestyle of mine, but I am learning it is always better to be prepared.  It is something new for my friends and family to adjust to my new lifestyle changes, too.

When I go to church dinners, friends' houses, or outtings, I always carrying my own food choices, especially since I am newbie sleever.

I plan in the future to carry my own choice of protein for back-up when I go to cookouts, church dinners, and outtings.  I don't want to be left hanging when the choices are not what I can eat, regardles of whatever stage I am at.  I am there to enjoy the company of those present.  If they have foods that I can't eat, well that's okay, because I will have my back-up handy.  Remember, just because you have it doesn't mean you have to use it.  Be prepared.  Most hosts will not have a problem cooking the food that you provided, or at least allow you to grill your own.

Believe me, as each of us reach the various stages of our sleeve, our choices will increase with time.  Meanwhile be prepared and enjoy the journey.  Do it for life.
