Question about the pain
I am scheduled to have my band removed on 7/30 and my sleeve done on 8/6!!! So excited! I have a question about the pain that many of you have talked about after surgery. Was it pain where they entered your stomach or was there pain where they cut your stomach off? I remember the pain that I felt when I had the band and the pain was bearable after about 3 days. Just trying to get ready for what I have to look forward to.
I was in the hospital for 2 nights because I had some issues with nausea and throwing up. My doctor usually has people stay only one night, but it seems to be different with different doctors. I've seen some where people go home the same day, and some that stay three nights.
As for pain...well, the first day would have sucked without morphine, and the second day was pretty bad for me too. But, since I was having issues the second day, I'm not counting that. I've had one dose of pain medication since yesterday morning, and that was only because we were on bumpy roads coming home. Other than that, not even Tylenol. So far, there's a little discomfort (just a tiny bit of tenderness) at the incision sites, and my stomach is making all kinds of gurgly burbly noises, bit no pain at all, really.

My only real pain was soreness at the biggest incision. It lasted about a week, but got better every single day. I had a drain. If your surgeon doesn't use those, your pain may not be nearly as long lasting as mine was. Put it this way: after day four or so, it wasn't even bad enough to need medication; by then, it was more like mild discomfort.
As far as time in the hospital, my husband was out the next day. I probably could have gone home the next day with mine, but since I went to Mexico for my surgery I stayed three nights, which is the time included in the price for my surgeon. Since your dr is American, one night is typical (from my observations) unless you have some kind of situation arise that makes them want to monitor you a little longer. Don't worry. They won't release you if they see a reason they think you need to stay, especially if you are communicating with your dr and nurses about your symptoms.

I was only in for one night and did not take any pain medication at all. The nurses were furious with me, but I was more concerned about the nausea and vomiting than I was with the pain. I think I have a high pain tolerance however compared with m intolerance to any kind of pain meds. It was sore to turn over in bed, but since I didn't have a drain I was really very comfortable.
I didn't have a revision done so it may be different. But I didn't have any pain except for the biggest incision where they put the camera and take the stomach out and it was minimal pain like a pulling burning feeling when I would walk too much or bend down or over. Which I don't recommend doing the bending to much for the first two weeks. That pain just now went away. The other incisions I would have never known was there if it was not for the tape. And I didn't feel anything on the inside. I had surgery at 8am on a wen and I wanted to go home that Thur night but my doc made me stay one more day and I was home by noon on Friday. I had to stay the extra because my heart rate dropped right after surgery while I was in recovery to 30 and I didn't put the nausea patch on right the night before surgery and so I vomited a couple of times so I was a lil behind on starting to get liquids in on my own.
