Mio instead of Crystal Light?

I am currently on my pre op diet and my instruction sheet from my docor says that I could drink  flavored drinks such as Crystal Light as long as there are no carbs. My question (might seem dumb sorry) is...do you think it would be ok if I used Mio (prefer the taste) instead of Crystal Light?

My NUT says MIO is just fine and can be used interchangeably with Crystal Light as long as you don't get the ones in the black bottle because they have caffeine and my program wants patients caffeine free.

I was really LOVING Mio and then someone on this board told me it had an ingredient which is very bad for you so I stopped using it after doing some research on it. I'm sure its fine in moderation but I wouldnt drink it as an every day thing.

One of the ingredients in Mio is Propylene glycol......which is Automotive Anti Freeze.....

I guess it's safe for human consumption.... it has to be FDA approved......

I think you may be mistaking it for ethylene glycol. I'm not saying propylene glycol is especially healthy, but it isn't antifreeze.

Product Overview
  • Propylene glycol (PG or MPG) is a colorless, odorless liquid1 which is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 21 CFR § 184.1666, for use as a direct food additive under the conditions prescribed. It is approved by the U.S. FDA for certain indirect food additive uses.2 PG is used in cosmetics and as an excipient (inert solvent or carrier) in pharmaceuticals. PG has a wide range of practical applications such as antifreezes, coolants and aircraft deicing fluids; heat transfer and hydraulic fluids; solvents; food; flavors and fragrances; cosmetics and personal care products; pharmaceuticals; chemical intermediates; plasticizers; and thermoset plastic formulations.3See Product Uses.
  • PG is not acutely toxic (single dose, high exposure). It is essentially non-irritating to the skin and mildly irritating to the eyes. Numerous studies support that PG is not a skin sensitizer or a carcinogen.4 See Health Information.
  • Occupational and consumer exposure is possible because PG is used in a variety of consumer items. See Exposure Potential.
  • PG is not volatile and is miscible with water. It is not expected to bio-accumulate and it is not acutely toxic to water organisms except at very high concentrations.5 See

I absolutely hate crystal light as it leaves a residue in my cups and a bade after taste. I drink plain water 99% of the time but if I do add flavor its Mio. I have one at my work, car, home, and my wife's purse.

I use Mio all the time.  I avoid Crystal light for two reasons:

1)  Their nutritional info can be misleading.  On some flavors they put the calories in terms of 1/8 of a packet - meaning you could drink 40 calories for a 32 ounce serving.  BAd

2) a lot of their flavors have a horrid acid taste to me.  Especially the citrus flavors unless its blended like the honey green tea lemon.

Agreed.  I get the acidity of it too.

I prefer MIO because you can control the amt, I like my water only slightly flavoured, and have always found the crystal light overpowering.
