Go for it!! Get it done and over. It really helps when you get to the airport and meet the other people having surgery. Everyone is nervous but when you are all going through the same thing it really helps to relieve some of the nerves and anxiety. Once you get to the clinic, everything seems to settle down and go normal. The nurses and staff are all really nice. You should be absolutely fine!
The best thing I personally felt I took was my Ipad for skype. There was always one lady on the phone at the recovery house and so I used skype with wi-fi to call home and it was sooo much cheaper than using my cell phone. I spent 3$ in Mexico on calling home from skype. Not sure if that is a concern of yours or not. I agree about the stretchy pants. I wore my biggest athletic pants with elastic waist and brought a couple pair of those and they helped. Your tummy will probably be sore afterward. I did end up going to the Hotel Ticuan after being at the recovery house for a while because I just wanted some peace and quiet. The hotel is gorgeous!! So whether you stay at the recovery house or the hotel, i can promise you all is well. The recovery house gets crowded and noisy though sometimes that is the only complaint I had. It was too crowded for me personally but some people don't mind that. It's just a personal thing. If you can stay at the recovery house and don't mind the crowds/noise then that would be probably the BEST thing because they check on you and give you meds there. If you stay at the hotel you have to take a bumpy van ride back to the clinic daily for meds and the van is usually late.
I personally would have stayed at the recovery house but I just couldn't sleep after being there for a while. That is the only reason I left. It was clean when I was there and the staff is so nice. Some people can sleep through noise--I can't. So I went over to the hotel and got some rest. After the leak test, I left a day early back to San Diego. Most people stayed another night but I was eager to get home to my family. Me and another girl headed back to San Diego after the leak test so I could get some rest before my flights and not have to rush back to the airport.
My experience with the surgery itself was good. I didn't experience any real pain. One of the girls in our group (there were 7 of us) got really sick after surgery but the other 6 people all seemed pretty good overall. Good luck girl!! It's the start of a new lease on life for you!

Thanks for all the info. Sunday night I will be at the hotel. After that ???. When I spoke with Melissa she had indicated that the doctor was overbooked for Monday and that is why they were looking for a few to come on Sunday instead. So I have a feeling some will be bumped to the hotel anyways. I didn't change my return flight. So I will be in Mexico until Thursday. It is really the first "vacation" I have had in years. I would love some peace and quiet. Anyhoos...I know you are keeping my spot on the loser's bench warm. See ya there!!!
