question about myfitnesspal

I just entered a food that has 8 net carbs, as there are 25 g carbs, and 17g fiber, but myfitnesspal just put in the total carbs.  Is ther a way to make that change, or do you all just subtract the fiber from your daily totals in your head so you know what the actual number is?  Thanks!

I don't do net carbs. I do total carbs.

I don't know of a way to make it count net carbs, but you can add a column in your diary for fiber.

Click on the "food" tab, then "settings," and the first option that comes up should be a list of nutrients tracked. Select fiber from one of the drop down lists, and voila! You can also rearrange the order of the columns by selecting the nutrients in the order you want them to appear.

It worked like a charm!  Now I can track the fiber so I can get an accurate count of carbs.  Thanks again!!!

I don't do net carbs.  Its a myth that fiber is not absorbed.  There are two types of fiber that get lumped into fiber on the nutritional label.  Some fibers are broken down in the gut and add calories.  US Labeling laws do not require the manufacturer to seperate the two and you neevr know what you are getting.

I see the Net carbs thing as Enron Accounting in the diet to justify eating more carbs.

Love this.
As one to try & justify damn near anything, I will remember this!
Thanks for yet another wonderful morsel of advice for the rest of us.

Thanks for the input Rob.  I was going by what I was taught when I had diabetes nutrition ed classes a few years ago.  I've just subtracted the fiber, but not sugar alcohols.  I'll have to keep closer tabs on this.
