Even back in the day I was never much for a grilled dog.  I always liked them boiled or steamed.

The only time I steam them is when I make my real coney sauce... then I must also steam the buns too.. everything has that melty-mush texture.. messy eating at it's best. Otherwise, the few times I have dogs, it's around a campfire, on a sharpened stick!

I must have an unsophisticated palate because I liked them.  I split the dogs and sear them in my cast iron skillet (no oil) then add some onion and let them steam.   They are great with spicy mustard!

No Judgements on anybody's palate!  I just really did not care for them.  Part of me is curious since it has been so long since I had ANY beef if my tastes have changed so much that I may not even like a regular hot dog when I have one again.  Was I just so not used to the taste of beef that it just tasted bad, or was it this particular dog that just didn't agree with my palate?

Thats why I am curious what others thought.

If you like them, just like Greg - I am happy for you.

Good idea on the cast iron skillet BTW.

Havent had a hot dog since my pre-op days, but beef has completely changed for me.  I can handle a good steak (ok LOVE), albeit a tiny portion, but ground beef and most beef products in general even smell strange to me now!  I cooked ground beef the other evening for DH's dinner and the smell about did me in!

Immediately post op there were a lot of things that smelled or tasted strange, but most of that went away, with just about everything except beef.  Strange!

Ooooo, not so sure about a regular hot dog for you either! Last Friday I went to a school cook out. I knew what the menu was going to be, so I decided on eating the hamburger sans the bun, etc... Well the meat was too tough for me and I couldn't eat it (thanks Sleevie!), but I knew I had to eat something so I got a hot dog instead. And I have always loved me a good dog!

Oh.... I liked the smell and the flavor, but the texture was so odd. It was a good dog, too - Nathan's. I ate about half and stopped. It was just kind of icky. I also didn't feel very well after eating it. My advice: when you finally try one be careful and don't eat too much. I won't be having another one any time soon.

 Thanks for the advice!

I have another twenty pounds or so to goal - so my next attempt probably won't be for a while.  I am just putting my plan for transitioning to maintenance together.

For now, I am just keeping on plan - sticking to my chicken breast and other lean protein.
