Happy for you. Just a couple questions please. Is the chance of blood clot higher or the same as any surgery? Bed rest or normal routine? Compression garments if yes how long? Infection rate higher at incision site? Thanks wishing you speedy recovery

My understanding is that clots are somewhat time dependent - the longer you're under, the higher the odds. Genetics, age, and weight also matter.  I guess the same as any surgery of the same duration

Bed rest, definitely. With full body lift, I can't be on my feet more than five, ten minutes at the absolute most (five days out). I'm tighter than a drum.

Different surgeons have different opinions on compression garments. Mine says yes, but after JP drains come out; mine are still in.

Of course incision sites have higher infection rates  - not sure what your question is on this last one?  Are you asking about how I'm keeping my wounds clean?

Glad things went well.

My surgeon didn't have me start on compression garments until 3 weeks after surgery. Then I had to wear them for 3 weeks 24/7.

Do you feel they helped?  How annoying was it?  I haven't even tried mine on yet since its still too early.

Didn't have to wear a binder. He told me to get Under Armour compression shirts/shorts.

Wasn't annoying at all. It feels like a security blanket so that things aren't moving around that much. Think it definitely helped. It was hard giving it up.

My surgeon has me (my partner) lightly scrub out blood from the suture sites with hydrogen peroxide and then sterilize with Betadine (iodide) for the first 4-5 days.  The JP ports sites are sealed with antibiotic ointment. This procedure done 2-3 times a day. It's really painless. I'm told it's really important to keep dried blood out for two reasons 1) it's great bacterial food and 2) it'll serve as granulation sites that can lead to increased incision scarring.

After 4-5 days, when sutures are completely done oozing, they are cleansed with Hibiclens instead of hydrogen peroxide.
