Effectiveness of the Sleeve for persons with higher BMIs

I am just a smidge over 6 months out and am having great success with the sleeve,  My starting BMI was 56, today it is 44.    A co-worker who had RNY 2 weeks ahead of me is losing a little faster but she doesn't seem to feel as good as I do.

Allison said it all above, really.    VSG is a great procedure and I haven't regretted it one bit.

I began at 65.2 for my BMI, (day of surgery 57.7) and after 9 months, I am now at 35.2.  I would do it again in a heartbeat.  I looked at all of the surgeries, and decided the VSG was for me.  However, I think every single one of them have merits, you just have to decide which is right for you and your lifestyle.

Best of luck!

I just passed the 5 month mark and went from a BMI of close to 60 down to about 40-41.  I LOVE my sleeve and did lots of research before making a decision.  Like everyone else says, the malabsorption was something I definately didn't want.  i was 328 at my initial visit -- lost around 20 pounds preop and have lost 83 pounds since surgery day of 12-22-11.  I think ALL happy sleevers will agree that VSG will soon be the gold standard in WLS.  Just makes sense.  And by the way, I am 61 so my metabolism isn't like that of a 30 year old.  I do work out, but not as often as I plan to!!!

I am waiting to get into a program and as soon as I heard about the sleeve I knew that it was probably my best option. I prefer that my body will function in the same fashion but with a smaller capacity (minus the hunger horomone!).

6 months & 1 week post op. Last October (7 months ago) I weighed 334 lbs. Today I weigh 216. Look at my profile for pics of each month.

Yes, I would say it works just fine.

I started at 50.8... got it down to about 40.2 on my own in the 3.5 months before surgery... now, at 10 months out I am 28.9... Worked for me.... but it really is WORK!  An AMAZING tool, but my head is also pretty amazing, and can mess with me terribly... that plus my intense carb sensitivity... this hasn't been easy, but I wouldn't change it for the world!
