Honestly, I think it's in the surgical technique more than the bougie size. There are so many factors that go into making a sleeve. My surgeon used a 40f bougie. It is over sewn with a running stitch and in my opinion, tight. I am 5.5 months out and still am satisfied on 2 oz of protein and a few bites of veggies.

Just my opinion--but I think anywhere from a 32 to a 36 FR is probably the best. I wanted the most restriction possible and got a 32Fr oversewn. I can eat protein and veggies fine and haven't had any issues with any foods. I do agree with the others who say taller people naturally have longer stomachs. So it's true that some people will just have more restriction with the same size bougie than others because of the natural size of the stomach. It depends on what you are comfortable with. If you trust your surgeon, and he or she has a good excxess weight loss record with their patients, then go with him faithfully. I think if I were you I might ask for his patients' average excess weight loss at 12-18 months. Good luck!!
