can any one tell me what the average wl is for the sleeve? not the wl % i am trying to decide between the sleevee and the DS. my Dr said with the DS he thinks that i will loose too much wt and have trouble gaining it back. i am afraid with just the sleeve i wont loose as much wt as i need.

I don't believe there is an average number to give you.  Most people lose about 100 lbs. rather easily, some lose much much more than this, others lose less.  It really depends on the technique of your surgeon (as all sleeves are not created equally), your eating program and your compliance to the eating program.  And of course, how much weight you need to lose.  I have seen heavyweights reach goal with the sleeve and I have seen lightweights struggle.  So it really depends on your personal situation, choice of doctor and commitment.

Having said this, I think that heavyweights should at least seriously consider DS as it is easier to lose the weight and has better long term stats.  I lost about 97 lbs. in the first 6.5 months after surgery and have rather easily (not effortlessly, but easily) maintained it for another 2.5 years.  So far, so good.  It was definitely enough for me, only you can decide if it enough for you.

If your talking about the Dr. Stewart in TX.....

I would believe him...... He is a very vetted DS surgeon and has some very successful VSG patients on this board.

I had a hard time with this too! I wanted the DS but my Dr. told me that it would be too extreme for me, along with the bypass. I didn't realize until getting on here that people are actually getting to their goal, and by that I mean, they are losing at LEAST 100 pounds or more!! I have seen too many people on here who have done this and are almost there.

If your Dr. is suggesting this, he is taking your history, your present, and your future all into consideration. Plus, if for some reason it didn't work and you needed the DS later, I guess you could fight to get that then?!? My Dr. also told me they have done that in the past for people who need to lose a lot of weight BEFORE surgery. So they do the DS in 2 parts, the VSG first, then the DS.

Hope that helps!! Hang in there! I think with the right tools you will do fine!
