Ok, so I thought and thought and thought on this and I decided, that I would give it a try! First off, diet wise I am cleared for everything except citrus, popcorn, and alcohol, 3, 6 and 12 months respectively. So I had a bad night at work, worked my but off, and the idea of a good breakfast in the am was so tempting. Feeding my feelings, yes I know, but again I am human and not perfect. So I went and got my long lost favorite breakfast, the McDonalds Bacon Egg and Cheese Bagel! Took it home and began to eat, I ate very slowly and chewed, chewed and chewed my food, small bites and paying close attention to how I was doing. I was actually able to eat half, 280 calories, and I loved every second of it. It was as good and tasty as I remembered, and frankly I consider the experience a success. The craving is completely gone and I am back to my greek yougurt, boneless skinless chicken breast, etc. Now, I will not be eating this very often at all as I realize I would be getting back into bad habits, but an occasional yummy in tummy breakfast I feel will be ok for me. I even lost a pound the next day! I had worked so hard at the gym the day before and even took the stairs a few times and work. I just can't give up everything I loved to eat, most of it yes and better eating most of the time, again yes, but complete no's, it's just not for me, but as far as the occasional treat I am ok with that.

My nutritionist told me success is all about moderation! I think that in prefer to be successful and happy you should have the things that u once liked to eat! If u don't it's like a drug addict relapsing one day u might binge and really go off track! But if u allow urself that one small French fry or that one breakfast bagel every now and then u will be able to be happier in ur diet and keep better control over yourself! I also hate to think of that as cheating either because that just makes something that u felt good Bout into something negative!

Ditto!!!!Some people have.more will power thn others and can have 1 or 2 frys and stop some can't..But if you can't do it why do those people have to be soo damn negative to the people who could. Why do people have such negative things to say on here..smh I totally agree with you

Totally serious......no smart ass....my genuine opinion....you were brave enough to give yours, I'm gonna be brave enough to call you out on this.......

I would urge you to rethink this.......

This sounds like nutrition 101 for normies and the mentality for someone that needs to reel in 25lbs.

That fooling yourself about not calling it cheating is pure denial.

I sincerely hope this approach works out for you.....

I know you're going to get a lot of responses, and I had my own to write.  Then I decided to just say, your strategy works well for many people - even me at times, with certain things - but I believe with all my heart that we *have* to be willing to put down what we cannot control.

Those kinds of foods are designed - engineered, really - to make us want more than we need.  So, please please be careful.  What is easy to moderate a 10 weeks is much more difficult at 8 months (at least, in my experience).

I don't buy into this concept during WL.......

But, everyone is gonna do what there gonna do......

And for the poster that's getting instructed to use moderation.....

Moderation is a very dangerous word during WL..... How well did moderation work pre-op?

Lose the weight first, develop good strong life long lifestyle changes and a good understanding how this thing works..... Than in maintenance find tolerances through experimentation and moderation.

I agree.  I want to be 185 lbs way more then I want a McDonald's bagel.  There is nothing healthy at McDonald's.  Even their salads have sugar in them.  Their bagels are covered in a buttery grease I seem to remember.  This surgery is about getting healthier, not just looking better.  Somehow eating a carb filled bagel covered with grease/butter just doesn't seem to fit into my definition of eating healthy.  To each their own though.

After quiting smoking 7 years ago, I now look at smokers not with envy, but with pity as I watch them inhale those poisonous chemicals into their lungs.   The smell of it just isn't appealing to me anymore.

I feel the same way every time I drive past McDonald's and see the people in the drive thru or walking into the place, I look at them with pity.  I had no idea what I was doing to myself every time I ate that crap.  It just isn't appealing to me anymore.

I'm a former smoker too and your analogy of food and smoking is spot on. I feel the same way!

Congrats on your WLS AND stopping smoking. :)
