One Month Out

Things are going well with  my revision to the sleeve.  I have been on soft proteins (defined by my surgeon) for two weeks now.  That includes chicken, fish, and turkey.  I can also have cheese, eggs, beans and soft veggies.

The killer was getting to transition to real food and PMS the same week!!  UGH.  I messed up a few times and ate some chocolate, but overall, I did well.  I did experience hunger during PMS week, which sucked.  Damn hormones!

I can tell you, the biggest difference between my sleeve and the band is KNOWING I can eat what I fix.  I can't tell you just how awesome that is!!  It makes sticking to my plan so much easier.

I have lost 14 pounds so far.  Not too bad, considering I am a slow loser, and my period always messes with my weight.  I also started going back to the gym as of yesterday.  I found out it is too early to do some crunches, not matter what my surgeon said!  OUCH.

I am thankful for all of the knowledgeable and friendly people here!

Wow gurl, you only have 30 more pounds to lose? That is awesome! I know you are a revision but still. Sounds like you are doing great and will reach goal in no time.
When my monthly friend visits me, I always jacks me up too. I wish that friend would just get lost for good sometimes!

Ha ha yes, she is a *****

My original goal was to get to 150, so that is 30 pounds away.  My doctor wants me to get to AT LEAST 138 pounds, which would be 60% EWL from my follow-up.  I think that is doable.  Although, I don't agree with his assumption (based on BMI) that I would need to be 105 pounds to be at 100% EWL.  No way.

I would literally be skin and bones!!  I am only  5' 2", but I am big-boned, so have a larger frame.  So, for now, I am leaving my goal at 150, so I can FINALLY say I met goal, then I will do my best to get to 138.

 You're 5'2" and he's saying 105??? Yikes!

I haven't even asked my surgeon about a goal yet but will do that when I see him again in a few more weeks. FWIW, I'm 4'11", with a large frame, and set my own goal at 115. No idea if I can really GET there (from where I stand today anyway) but it's what I'm working toward.

You're doing great Melly! :)

According to BMI charts, 105 lbs., would put me at a 19...low end of normal.  I don't see myself ever getting that skinny....my boyfriend wouldn't like it either, ha ha ha!!

I hope you get to your goal or very close!!  We are in this together!!

Thanks for the support!

19 BMI is too low for a realistic doctor's goal for a WLS patient. Some with small builds do get there, but most of us have too much lean mass from the years of carrying the weight.

Your goal of 138 is right at the top of the "normal" range and seems very realistic and doable.

I put 5'2" in my favorite ideal weight calculator (http://www.calculator.net/ideal-weight-calculator.html?ctype =standard&cage=30&csex=m&cheightfeet=5&cheightinch=2&cheight meter=180&x=73&y=13) and got this:

Based on the Robinson formula (1983), your ideal weight is 123.0 lbs
Based on the Miller formula (1983), your ideal weight is 130.1 lbs
Based on the Devine formula (1974), your ideal weight is 120.4 lbs
Based on the Hamwi formula (1964), your ideal weight is 117.7 lbs
Based on the healthy BMI recommendation, your recommended weight is 101.1 lbs - 136.7 lbs

Highest weight: 335 lbs, BMI 50.9
Pre-op weight: 319 lbs, BMI 48.5
Current range: 140-144, BMI 21.3 - 22

175+ lbs lost, maintaining since February 2012

Ahhhh, that's great information.  Every formula is difrerent, but still much lower than I think I can get to.  I will do my best to get to 138!!  Thanks!!

Awesome, awesome, awesome. I'm glad you're doing so well.

PMS is just a joy sleeve or no sleeve! Glad you got through it pretty well.

My ab muscles were slow to heal from the incisions too. Never fear. They will. I started a challenge to build to 200 consecutive crunches over the next 6 weeks. No more abs of nerf for me!

Thanks, Mom!!

Yes, my PMS has always been a total joy.  I just have to learn to not let it control my eating so much.  Maybe lock myself in a room with only protein shakes and water for a week.

Good luck with your crunch challenge, I am sure you can do it!!  Abs of steel, here you come!!

Hallelujah..... I am sure there was plenty of uncertainty to do another WLS and not knowing what to expect.... and I am glad it went well for you!!   I have a friend who had her band removed last month and goes in for the sleeve next month, hope she does as well as you!   Best...
