McDonalds Bacon Egg and Cheese Bagel

Honestly, Ive had to come to terms with the fact that I will not be able to sustain my  body on foods that my mouth prefers. I cannot pick my foods based primarily on taste.

However, after forcing myself to try healthier alternatives for the last two years, my preferences have adapted and I'd much have my normal breakfast

scrambled egg whites/ turkey sausage crumbles (or candian bacon)/cheese - I usually have 1/2 portion for about 90 calories. When I want a *treat* - I  will have 1/2 flat out wrap (additional 45 cal, 4 g protein) and some fresh salsa or pico de gallo. I'd much rather have this any day over anything that comes from MCD.

If you still need food to "feel human" - you probably should look into those issues. It might not be apparent, but  it sounds like you may have some unresolved food issues to work through. As a food addict/binge eater, I get it, but you shouldn't need food to feel human. In fact, I feel more human now than I ever have in my entire life now that my life doesnt revolve around food.

For me - I don't have a "never" list. I have a list of behaviors that I will not engage in, and driving through a drive through is one of them (with one exception for Wendy's chili lol). Of course, I have no reason to ever go in a MCD at this point in my life, so that pretty much crosses MCD and all other fast food places off my list of places I'll eat from. I used to eat fast food for B, L, D and snack, and that's how I got to be 420 lbs. I dont need or want it.

I think the secret is MSG..thats the key to the MCD taste. Also knon as natural flavoring...and 50 other names.

Yeah, I think others have put together some great feedback here.  Just want to echo -

- Elaine2's recipe is a terrific, lower calorie, higher protein, much healthier alternative.  This is better, heathier, you can make it exactly like you want, and is far from "complete avoidance".

- Why eat solid carbs like bread, bagels?  Set yourself up for success, not failure.

- McDonald's food and other fast food is extremely processed and just crap.  It's filled with quite horrible stuff.  Show love for yourself with healthier options, not just smaller portions.  This "hyper-palatable" fast-food stuff - as The End of Overeating well describes, can be tough to get out of habit.  You can eat 1/4 now - in a couple months you'll be able to eat 1/2, then maybe in a year a whole one.... and remember, carbs like bagels are slider foods for most of us, so you'll really be able to get those portions in!

- Finally, ask yourself if you're going to be ok losing only 70% or 50% of the weight you want to lose?  There are plenty, endless ways to feel human outside of deriving a few moment's pleasure with food.  If you're not going to be down with still needing to lose 50 pounds at the end of your journey, think about the commitment to lifestyle change.  You're not going to find a whole bunch of people that got to 100% EWL eating fast food.

Oh, I'm sure you're not in the minority here - I know quite a bit of folks, especially after surgery, find habits hard to break.  Just wondering what your driver is here to advertise and flaunt it - to answer your first sentence "yes, you got my attention" - I'll ask you the same - Did I get your attention?

Where is the damn LIKE button!?!?!?!

OP - it's your stomach - or what's left of it after having 85% of it surgically removed.

My only question is, how'd those foods you want to keep eating work for you in the past?

I say totallly go for a tiny portion of what you want, just this once.  Then find an acceptable substitute to make for other times so the craving doesn't come back.

This seems like a major "head hunger" issue.  Isn't the better alternative to have bacon, eggs and cheese that you make at home without the bagel and added sodium, msg and other crap that is added to fast food?

Seems like it is really early in your journey to be trying bread and/or fast food.  Did you decide to have this surgery so you could eat all the same stuff you ate pre-surgery (just smaller amounts) or so you could change your life and get healthier?  Not judging just "food" for thought.

I've given in to cravings a couple of times and in all honesty the experience was disappointing. If you are like me you will take one or two bites and discover that it just doesnt taste good or as good as you remember and it will likely not sit well. Craving gone !!

Right now it's holding some sort of magic for you and it will until you try it again.  the problem is you may continue to crave it, on the other hand it might suck as a long list of things do after surgery.  One thing I will say since you're an adult and this is your journey, have it at Mc Donald's and ditch the uneaten portion and if you have carb craving afterward, get them under control but remember them, because that is the reason most folks just mark food groups off their diets, because they cannot handle them.  You're pretty early out and you may not know if that is one of the things your journey might be about but maybe finding it might not be the worst thing.
