Been looking at Medic ID bracelets on laurenshope and see some cute ones, but I'm not sure what it should say.  Is VSG recognized enough yet?

Somebody's said:

My name
RNY 9/22/09
NO BLIND NG TUBE
NO NSAIDS

What are Nsaids?

There is no reason why you cant take NSAIDS .. other then Right after surgery maybe.

I take them just fine.  NSAIDS are meds like Motrin, Advil, Aleve, etc. (unless of course your allergic to them)

Ask your doctor if this bracelet is even worth getting.

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug is what NSAIDs are. VSG'ers don't hafta worry about that.

Analgesics - Non-Steriodal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs.  Aspirin, Ibuprofin, etc.

It's even silly to put that on a bracelet - first, they're not going to put pills down your mouth unconscious, and having NSAIDs once or twice isn't life threatening for an RNYer.  And certainly not for a VSGer.

You make your own decisions, but I honestly don't think you need a bracelet at all.  Only danger is a blind feeding tube, and it's not "that bad" of a danger unless I'm ill-informed (maybe I am).  While our stomachs are narrow, they still have length.

Agree! I was told no reason to since we still have the length

If you already where an ID braclet just add it to that for good measure. Otherwise, why do you need it?

On the NSAID thing - the rules differ depending on the surgeon. My surgeon says none unless there is a medical reason (aspirin for a medical condition, etc.) I can take Tylenol - no Motrin, aspirin etc.

Do what ever YOUR doctor says to do, NOT the faces on a forum.

I have that on my Med Alert Bracelet (except in place of RNY I have Sleeve Gastrectomy).  I figure for the first year can't hurt. After a year stomach is fully healed and it isn't so much a big deal.

As a paramedic I would no nothing different if I read your bracelet saying you had VSG then any other patient.  That's why I suggested to ask your doctor.  I see no reason to even wear a bracelet if its just for your VSG.

We can use NSAIDS and the blind NG tube isn't a huge deal.  It IS a big deal for an RNY patient as they can shove that tube right through their pouch but it should go into our stomach perfectly fine.

A lot of post op care is "borrowed" from RNY even though the VSG has a lot of differences.

I don't wear a bracelet.
