Why do some doctors do leak test after surgery others do not?

I asked my surgeon post op day 2 if I was going to have a leak test and he said he did it while he was doing the surgery and everything was fine. No drain either. I was surprised but grateful I was good to go home

My surgeon does the leak test while you are under with the blue/green stuff. He does not use a drain and no catheter either unless there is an indication to do so. Apparently he hasn't had a leak in 8 years so I sure hope I can keep his stats pristine!!!! He does oversew the staple line.

I actually didn't even ask if I had one done during surgery... I am guessing I did.  I did not have a drain after surgery either, just six small incisions.  No leak test post-op as of yet... all is going great for me.  But I do know that some leaks are not caught until after all the swelling goes down.  Just pay close attention to your body and contact the doctor if anything does not feel right.
