Home with my brand new sleeve
VSG on 04/19/12
I had my surgery Thursday morning around 7am, was moved to ICU by about 9:30 - 10:00 with pretty much no pain at all. I was up using the bathroom about an hour later (all on my own). The nurses and the ICU doctor were amazed how eager I was to get out of my bed. I spent the rest of the day in bed, getting up to use the bathroom. I was given the pain medication every 4 to 6 hours. Next morning I was wheeled away for the leak test. Everything was fine and I was discharged at 12:45 pm. Came home and had no pain in the incision sites, I did have gas pains in my lower abdomen. I did not have to take any pain medication at home.
There were total of 5 people having their surgery that day (not sure if all were a sleeve) I was the first one to be out of my bed after the surgery and the first one to be discharged. My nurse told me the other patients were not so lucky, none of them were out of their beds the first day. On Friday, before I left, I saw a woman patient walking around with her husband. She looked miserable.
I feel so lucky to be out and painless in a bit over 24 hours.
