Protein Shake w/o stevia or artificial sweetener aftertaste?
Some people have mentioned using them in coffee to make flavored coffees. Since this was vaniall flavored, I thought it might work. I assume it was the stevia that tasted so bed. I know the first time I tried something I couldn't drink at all--I think it was a Jay Robb protein sample--it was stevia and it left such a strong aftertaste--reminded me of when I drank Diet Coke, only worse.
Do you like any of those SF Torani or DaVinci syrups? Or do you tolerate Splenda? I primarily use unflavored whey protein isolate, and I add my own flavor and adjust the sweetness to my taste (not usually a big sweet-person.)
You can use it in hot beverages too, just have to mix the protein in with room temp fluid, then slowly add hot while stirring.. no clumping. I do drink protein coffee and chai tea once in a while too.. Protein goes into almond milk, then hot liquids, then sweetener or flavor as needed.
Some of the proteins out there are def better tasting than others, just a trial and error.. samples, lots of samples. Nashua Nutrition sells a lot of proteins in $2 sample bags, worth a try.

Couldn't agree more about artificial sweeteners. I also am allergic to soy and am gluten-free. So I've been doing a lot of research for myself.
Here's what I've found
:
Raw Protein by Garden of Life (has 17gm. of protein per serving from raw organic sprouts. Nothing artificial also it is dairy free, gluten free and vegan. The taste is not bad. I've had it with skim mild, with almond milk and with pomegranet juice.) - I found this one myself and will show it to my NUT this week to see if it's acceptable. Can't see why it wouldn't be.
Pea Proten by Now Sports (made from yellow peas; has 28gms of protein per serving; vegetarian/vegan; no artificial ingredients, allergen free) - my NUT suggested this. I have not tried it yet. It's sitting waiting for my post-op experience.
If you come up with anything else that's natural, I'd be interested to know about it. thanks

I use a vegan/gluten free one called PlantFusion (has stevia) and I really like it and I cannot stand artificial sweeteners... though I am getting used to most of the stevia ones. The chocolate one does not taste too icky sweet and doesn't have much of an aftertaste. Now, the unflavored one has a different taste to it, but no sweetener. I am finding out, that some things just are an acquired taste. You can find samples of the PlantFustion on line on amazon. If you want to try it. Some gluten free stores carry it and some health food stores as well.
