 Just a quick question-

If you enter 1 cup raw spinach in for myfitnesspal, is that a packed cup, a loose pile in a cup, or...?  No clue how to measure spinach apparently!

Hmmm, I never thought about it before, but i would think a loose pile...I am interested to see what others have to say.

I'm going to go with tightly packed. 10 oz of raw spinach is 8 calories. Sometimes it's just easier to go by weight than by volume. I use Livestrong.com and generally I can track using weight instead of volume. Makes my calories seem a little more accurate to me. Either way, I don't think it'll make that much difference.

Spinach and most raw greens have such a minor nutritional and calorie impact that I don't usually bother counting them.  And, when I do, I pick whichever measure sounds good to me at the time!

Thanks- I didn't even look up by weight, that would totally work.  Every one I picked on myfitnesspal was done by cup.  Thanks for your input!  I was not so worried about the calories, but given enough it does count as some protein- and that I want to be accurate on as I typically barely hit my 90 each day.

That's why I pretty much weigh everything - that very question of measuring spinach has long been a problem when using volume measures. So, while the 5 calories that the 20g of chopped spinach that I typically have in my salads may be insignificant, I do track the vitamins and minerals that it contains.
