Frisco... since you seem to be the master , i wanted to ask a somewhat weird maybe dumb question , but its there and i have to let it out.

its known that the capacity of the sleeve stays the same as 6 - 8 months post op.
so if this is true if i try to not stretch it in this period of time, will it still stretch after that ???
do you know what i mean?  am i making any sense?

say that if i try to eat around 1.5 oz of protein in the first 9 months , rather than 3 - 4 oz , will my sleeve stay unstretched or can it still stretch years later .

and if it can stretch years later how come ppl post that they reached maximum sleeve capacity at 6 or 8 months post op.???

I am no master.....at least at weight loss.... or I would be long gone..... I'm just in a different phase....trying to maintain and make this a life long commitment.

1- as far as I know that it is not a known fact that restriction/sleeve size stays the same as 6-8 months post-op. I would think you could stretch the sleeve after constant over eating at anytime after the healing period..... it is human tissue.... not steel.....

People mention that there restriction as about the same as 6-8 months out.....I have mentioned mine is about the same as 4-6 months out.

I think people mention this because they have reached/discovered/learned/adapted to a new lifestyle that works for them. Here is a clue..... Most people that still post here on OH after say 6 months to a year have done pretty well...... The people that don't do so well.....which is probably some info your looking for..... drop off after 6 months or so......or there WL is not as great as some others and it becomes depressing for them to come on these boards and read about people doing better then themselves. (yes....people drop of for other reasons....like getting on with life....they got what they needed and are doing just fine.....people get pissed if you don't mention that)

In a nutshell:

- The only way to stretch your sleeve is constant over eating and creating positive pressure within your sleeve.... remember....it's a high pressure tube now..... not a huge expanding balloon anymore.

- Eating till your full is how we got fat. Learn to under eat your capacity. If a bag holds 4oz. only put less than 4 oz. into it........

- Under eating your sleeve capacity insures that you will preserve maximum restriction. This is ongoing. There is not a period of time....than it is set for life.

- You can eat around any procedure without doing much harm....with the sleeve you can eat endless slider foods..... your sleeve can empty every hour or so.....you can graze the pounds back on......sugars and carbs will do you in if you start that up....

Sorry.... probably not what you were looking for..... I do commend you for asking the questions and learning about it...puts you way ahead of a lot of people going into this.....

Hope this helps.

Oh yes.....not trying to dog you or discourage you..... but.....if it was sold to you somehow that this surgery is all about depending on restriction.......that's a wrong way to go into it.... you gotta do your part for this to work....

Frico, I have a personal question and you don't have to answer if you don't want to! But, have you ever "stuffed" your sleeve too much? Got foamies or thrown up from overeating? What are holidays like? Do you eat any of the sugar or allow your self a treat?
Thank you for any information!

I have only about a half a week on soft foods, and so far so good. I have made sure I chewed well and ate slow. When I get hungry I think I could just eat and eat. Then when I have a little something, I'm full again! It blows my mind!!!

Your gonna make me come clean are yah !!!!

Full disclosure in two parts:

Weight Loss

- Stuffed..... Yes, several times by accident and finding my way.
- Foamies......Yes, several times by accident and finding my way.
- Puke......Nope
- Holidays......No problem....Turkey, Ham, Roast or Crab and a veggie and a bite or two of rice or potato. (all within my 40grams carbs)
- Treats...... Had bites of cake several times.....only scratch made by my mom (won't always have that opportunity as she is getting up in years) No open treats......no food rewards.

Maintenance

- Stuffed.....A few times by accident.
- Foamies......twice only after a year.....once at a restaurant in Tokyo.....once at my moms.
- Puke.....No
- Holidays....Same as above.....add small portion dessert.(Sliver)
- Treats..... Yes if you mean foods off plan....but No if were just counting nutritional info. I eat Dark Chocolate several times a week and bites of desserts occasional rice, bread, pasta, potato. (still inside my 80grams limit on carbs)

Many successful Sleevers here have some different views and opinions.
My strongest suggestion is to go by the book....hardcore strict WL to lose the weight and implement the proper lifestyle changes for ease into maintenance.
What you don't read about to much here is how many people fall short of goal weight.
Lose the weight first......than get experimental and find your tolerances in maintenance.

Thank you for being honest! I appreciate that! You know it seems that as people loose weight, more people say "it's ok, you have been doing good, you can have some".......I'm afraid this is how it will be around family holidays next year. I have 80 more pounds to loose and don't want to ruin anything!! I have had a slice of well toasted 100 % wheat bread.

Thanks for the advice!

I know you didn't ask me, but I thought it might be helpful for you to know what my answers to the same questions would be.  I would say all the same things as Frisco, except that I really didn't "cheat" at all, not even once during the losing phase.  But remember, my weight-loss happened in the first 6.5 months, so it was easier to stay strong for a short time.  Every other answer would be the same.

I think I can eat way more than I should be able to, but it seems to vary by meal. I don't pu**** I feel likeI could eat more, but stop anyway. Once I ate 3 ounces of tuna in half an hour. This early, I really wish that was not possible. I have a 32, but I don't know how tightly that was sewn. Of course I wi**** was smaller, and I wish I was a goal weight yesterday and magically needed no surgry. I think my screen name should have been "impatient". lol

There is definately a difference between Bougie sizes. I am a size 42 bougie and I can wolf down a big burger with lots of meat and toppings no problem. I don't mind the bigger capacity because I eventually want to start adding live foods back to my diet - fruit, salads, and other green bulky stuff. To be honest though success is really staying on plan and eating high protein and lower carb. This far out I found it waaaay to easy to eat crap if I want to. Crap just slides right on through. So thin and healthy is more of a choice and not just because of a bougie size. Also I believe there are less "side effects" with bigger sleeves. I have never thrown up or had the foamies (maybe once) so I take that as a plus.

I guess to sum things up I chose VSG to leave my anatomy as "normal" as possible. Being able to eat more makes me feel closer to normal. But then again it could easily be my downfall if I let it - which I won't. I've come to far!

WELL, Mister, Mister..LOL... I have a 42 to!!! And even at pretty well 4 years post op. I cannot eat a big bigger with all the toppings. I'm thinking maybe because your taller?

I have thrown up lots and still get foamies by times...If I eat too fast, like chicken...One food I think I will always foam with!!

And I believe with repeated over eating it does stretch the ole sleeve out some!!!...
