I think my stomach must be longer than others that eat less than me. I am 5'10" and have a long torso so I wonder if I have a tad bit more capacity than a woman who is 5'1" for example? however tonight I grilled grain fed, organic ribeyes (yummy right?) and was uncomfortable eating only 1 oz.
My doc used a 34f and oversewn the staple line just for the record. The first 6 weeks I felt my restriction was intense and have been a little disappointed lately with my restriction, minus the ribeye experience from this evening.
Maybe I'm too new to understand why this is such a fiery post? But I'm excited to see the ride!

It is a tube like instrument that is inserted into your mouth when you are under and it is used as a guide to cut and staple around. It is nothing more than a guide for surgeons. In theory, the smaller the boughie, the smaller the stomach. In practice, there is a great deal more that goes into making a smaller stomach than just the size of the boughie. How close the surgeon cuts to the boughie, how much he pulls the tissues around the bough, how close he cuts to the top and the bottom along with many other issues along with your own anatomy determine the size of your eventual stomach. I hope this helps.

I really like this video because it doesn't show surgical footage but explains the differences in stomach size.
A bouguie is the calibration tube (a cylinder that they use to show them where to cut and sew)
Check out the video :)

A bougie (French, pronounced boo-zhee) is a tube of plastic inserted into your stomach (via the esophagus) that the surgeon uses as an internal guide to creating your sleeve. I'm not sure if all surgeons use one - I've seen one surgery video that did not mention the bougie but did involve a placement stitch.
I think I recall that Dr. C said that he used to use a larger bougie size at one time but found that long term success was not as good. I believe it was with his first 100 patients and it was after the first few years that the problems began. He has followed patients for many years and has had the greatest success with 32f. I know he also staples tight. Elina, he must have known how tiny you would become so he gave you a little more room!
