I was 1 week out yesterday. I have struggled every day to get in my fluids & my protein, let alone eat also. Plus then there's walking. I get up about 9- 10a & have to nap at like 2-3p for 2-3 hrs. then I'm up until about 10p. Basically I'm up like 10 hrs a day. I have averaged about half mile or more walking daily around the house or on my tredmill.  My fluids have been about 40-50+ oz protein like 50g on good day & I might eat some cream of wheat 2x (1- 1.5 oz w/ skim milk) . ther pudding & everything sweet is just gross & I can't stand the taste of the fat free cream soups.  Come about 8p every day last 3 days I just cry. I feel soooooo tired & like I'm failing myself. I crave (totally in my head) things I didn't even eat before surgery like fried chicken, chips & dip, hot dogs & spaghetti O's, yuck & weird. I get to this time in the day & I look at my water & my protein & I just can't do it anymore, it's such a chore & I'm soo tired.

Has anyone else gone through this type of thing & what has helped you?

 Hi Tscasto....

First, congratulations on making this step....  Now "breathe"...  :)

This phase is really challenging as your head says one thing and your doctor says another... I can empathize as i remember those days.  But i promise it will get easier....  You're doing really well!  My first week out i barely got any protein or fluids in.  Focus on the great success you've had so far....  Focus on the reasons why you chose to do this.....

It isn't easy.  It wasnt a walk in the park for me but i'm glad i did it.  What got me through was reading the success stories of others.... and posting here.  We are all here to help.

Good luck!

I was one week out on wednesday and i have been feeling the exact same way. The worst for me has to be the constant weakness and feeling tired all the time. I crave food as well but eating is a chore also. I tried to do the laundry this evening as i have small kids and i felt faint and dizzy just by loading the machine.I dont even have the luxury of resting much cos my children are still very young.
But we have to keep our eye on the prize....remember the reason you idi it in the first place.

Thx. I am totally positive at the start of each day. It just seems to do the flip at this point in the day. If it wasn't for the Pure protein whey shots I would never get in as much as I do. As far as laundry, my discharge nurse used that as one of the specific examples of things I am NOT supposed to do. I have done dishes, as in unloading dishwasher 1 item at a time basically & it took like 45 min to unload & reload. lol!  I know this is the start to my new life & I am grateful. I guess I just didn't really  expect this.

I was depressed the first week, bcos I had so much pain and could not drink what I was supposed to drink.  It just hurt too much.

I am now 11 days out.  Right now, I do not even miss solid food.  My doctor has me on liquids for 22 days!  I am half way there.  Ya know what, I don't even care at this point.

I am also not depressed anymore at all.  I know this is for my health and life.

Just think about eating what you need to eat to heal your body.

Don't think about foods that are not an option.

I know it is hard!  I live with a husband who is 6'1 and has a roaring metabolism... so lots of food here, but I can't have it.  So be it.

Trust me everyone has gone through this phase.  Oh, how I remember being miserable and crying.  I'm 4 weeks out and couldn't wait to get to pureed foods, now the thought of liquid foods give me the creeps and I'd rather stick to the soups.

Whoever said this was easy lied their tails off because it is not.  But, you are doing great because I can't even drink water now.  I don't have enough on my stomach to drink water.  Keep your head up and trust us when we say that 3 weeks from now you will laugh at this moment, but now just take it slow and understand one thing........THIS IS A JOURNEY AND NOT A MARATHON!!!

Best wishes to you!!!!

As everyone has said we know how you feel.  I had every emotion there is to have. You shouldn't be eating food yet only liquids for the first two weeks.  I still after 5 weeks can't drink all the water I'm suppose to drink.  Just do what you can and don't stress about it especially only after one week.  You need to let your body heal and then after that you will learn how to eat again. Give yourself a break and remember IT DOES GET BETTER.

I slept for the first two weeks! Sipped water, G2 and chicken broth only! There is time for protein later....right now just concentrate on RESTING so you can heal and LIQUIDS so you don't dehydrate!!!! I would putter around my house, that was my exercise. Screw the treadmill for now....focus on healing and staying hydrated. Then all of a sudden, poof, you have energy again. Slowly start looking at adding activities but sleeeeep!!! And siiiiiiip!

You can do this! :)

If you get bored, check out my blog.  I felt that way for oh 5 weeks at least.  I didn't have the cravings until about 4 weeks out, and now, it's like I am constantly hungry.  :(  Just try and do your best, it will get better, I promise.  One thing that helped me was blogging.  It was a great way to get the frustration out and have a "diary" of this journey.  You might give it a try!

GOOD LUCK!
