When are you having Surgery

Ugh, every day I spend like this ****** me off, but unfortunately, I couldn't start the process until after January 1st this year (I'm lucky in that my husband's company's insurance WILL cover it), and now I'm doing my 6-month diet.  Every single stinking day I wish I had $13k and could just do it now!  I'm getting this damn surgery scheduled just as soon as I have all the requirements cleared!  Sooner if they'd let me. haha

I do have one question, if you don't mind.  Your insurance clearly didn't cover the sleeve ... do you have the same insurance now?  Have you had any problems with them paying for any medical care on the basis of your VSG?  My insurance (rather than my secondary, which covers the procedure) not only excludes the surgery, but excludes anything that's caused by it.  Not that it's going to sway my decision to have it, but I do wonder if I'm setting myself up for dealing with insurance bull**** forever as a result.  Bah.  Insurance companies.

My insurance company at the time clearly would not pay for any type of WLS--that was in 2008.  I was lucky enough to have the money to go to Mexico.  A friend of mine who was a nurse that I worked with went and that is where I first learned about Dr. Aceves.  Actually I am thrilled that my insurance didn't pay for it because I would have never known about Dr. Aceves.  And by the way his cost is $8,750.00 for everything except you air fare.  He is an amazing doctor who has taught a lot of the US doctors how to do the "sleeve." surgery

And when I returned home the only thing I need was a blood panel and my PCP would order it and my insurance company paid for it. My PCP knew before I left and was totally for me doing this and said she would be there for me for any kind of care I needed.  I didn't have any problems and for the first few months my PCP would check be out about 1 time a month.  You should NOT have any complication or as you said "anything caused by it" if you have a good doctor.  

I hate how insurance companies hold you hostage.  It is a crime.  Sorry you have to wait.

Right now are some of the hardest times you will experience.  You are a bag full of emotions and feeling, and none of them feel good about now.  Take a deep breath and take it 1 hour at a time.  Do the best you can do and DO NOT beat yourself up.  It is very normal to feel all the things and feelings and emotions that you are feeling.  I remember on my way to Mexico in the airplane I thought to myself" are you crazy" what in the world are you doing.  Once I got to the hospital, I felt so much more comfortable.

I was excited, sad, happy, scared, couldn't wait for it to happen, wasn't sure I was doing the right thing.  Believe me it was the very best thing I have EVER done for myself.

I am here to hold you hand and walk you through this every step of the way.  You can and will do this and you will never have a regret.  I am telling you right now the 1st month is the hardest month because you have to give your new stomach a chance to heal.  It is only for 30 days and you can do this for 30 days.
