Gum during pre op liquid diet?
VSG on 02/16/12
I've been chewing gum lately (though I only have to do one day of liquids before surgery). I just have to remind myself that I can't swallow it. I don't want my doctor to find it during surgery. I know it doesn't take seven years to digest (like I was warned as a kid), but don't want to take any chances!

Before surgery my doctor said ok, just has to be sugar free. But not after surgery because you could swallow it. You'll get through this just take it one day at a time.

You survived what you thought would kill you. Now straighten your crown and go forward like the Queen you are!
I'm a major gum chewer. I waited a few months before I started chewing again. I guess the reason your not supposed to chew gum is if you swallow it that it could get stuck in your sleeve. When your sleeve is still swollen and healing I can maybe see a problem, but a few months out I feel fine about it.
