work issues pre- op
I submitted for my surgery date & short term disabilty & in a week, my place of employment has gotten "not-so-nice" with me. I actually ran into someone else that had worked for the same company, low & behold the same dept. even & they said the same thing happened to them. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this? What suggestions do you have? Has the surgery led you to a new career?

I watched this type of thing happen where I worked. I am retired now. Whenever
anyone had health issues, or needed time off to deal with an injury or health
problem they treated them very badly. Some of these people were pressured
into quitting or given the worst positions and watched by management. They
picked on these people trying to make them miserable. A person can endure
only so much. Some did quit, and others, in fearing for their jobs, did whatever
was forced on them. If you were in Management or a friend of someone in
Management you were given sympathy and told to take all the time you needed.
Unfortunately that is what happens. When you need the job so badly you just
hang in until you can work elsewhere. Just try to keep smiling and do the best job you
can. After surgery is over and you have recovered start looking for a better
company to work for. Good Luck.

I don't see how that is legal. How is your HR department? Are they any help? I know some places HR is horrible and they can actually make things worse. I would just grin and bear it and see if HR will protect your job for you. I would NOT let them pressure me into leaving a job.
