Oh no-bless your heart.  Did your dr. give you zofran or some other anti-nausea medication?  I'm a pre-opper so I'm not much help. I'm glad you are going for iv fluids.

Take care of yourself!

Hugs,

I didnt have that my problem but my wife did.  The zofran did help and it took a good 4-5 days for her nausea to go away.  I would call your doc....se what he/she suggests.  Good luck...it will get better.
Thanks for all the help!!

I had serious nausea and dehydration about a week and a half post-op, and had to go to the ER to get IV fluids.  I was also put on Zofran, which totally helped.  I took it for about two weeks after the dehydration, and slowly was able to get myself back up to the 64+ oz. per day.  It was miserable at first, but each day that passed made things a little better.  I am a little over 6 months post-op now, and haven't had any dehydration issues since then.

Good luck!

I went 5 times back to ER just because of fluids and throwing up. it gets better, but make sure you take your PPI and ZOFRAN on time, and I used the patch too. Goodluck

This may be a silly question--I'm a pre-opper and I haven't met with a surgeon yet. But do the surgeon's offices ever do iv fluids there? It seems like that would be a pretty smart thing to have on hand since dehydration is a pretty big concern with wls. We have a small clinic (Care United--not for wls) here in my town and they do iv fluids there.

I would just think having to go to the er for iv fluids could get pretty expensive and I wonder why surgeons wouldn't have the equipment on-hand for that.

I didn't have to go to the er. I thought I would since I got pretty scared at 3:30am but stuck it out till my doctors clinic opened and got fluids in their infusion center.

Ok--so you CAN get iv fluids at your dr's office? Is this the norm? If not-it should be, imo.

i'm not sure if this is normal i guess it all depends on your doctor. mine happens to be at a large clinic with probably 100 other doctors so they have an "infusion clinic' inside
