Weighing Food Quest???

 I read in the Pre-op LSD papers that they don't want you to measure your food after surgery.  What, Really WHY? Can someone tell me I would think they would want you to live by both scales so you don't over eat and gain.  Just doesn't make sense to me.  I have to say that I bought one and I WILL BE WEIGHING EVERYTHING THAT GOES INTO MY MOUTH!  Has anyone else heard this or read this somewhere???

Thanks, Jennifer

If you have been around here any length of time, you can see a lot of doctors have a lot of plans, some include weighing, some do not, some include carbs, or one in Oklahoma says no carbs ever again ever!

So.. I understand that the goal is to have us be like "normies" who do not actually weigh food, and some of us can do that and do it well (using other measures to gauge how much they are eating).

I think if you can not weigh then RIGHT ON!  And I think if you need to weigh then RIGHT ON!

However it actually WORKS for you (I mean ACTUALLY works, not how we WI**** worked, you know?) is the way we oughta do it!

Just like some doctors are 3 meals and no snacks ever, or never have shakes once you can eat your meats (and do not believe that vsg folks have protein issues if the eat enough dense protein).

Nothing is standard with all of our doctors except, well.  uMmmm.

No rerouting of intestines!  :}  There.  that's about all I can think of that all the doctors plans have in common.  :}

 I weigh my food all the time, except when Im out at a restaurant.  I live by the numbers.  It works for me.  I would ask your surgeon or your NUT what they say.

But as the other poster said, all Doctors are different.  Its their plan and your body - you have to do what works best for you.

I weigh my food so that I can track appropriately and I track so I can be accountable and KNOW FOR A FACT how many calories I'm getting, protein, carbs, etc. I don't know sometimes if I need an added shake (or TWO) unless I am reliably tracking my intake.

I will be going out to dinner tonight and I will just portion out a bit and eyeball it but for the other 20 meals during the week (and however many snacks I have) I will stick to the scale.

It really just comes down to what works for you.  I don't weigh EVERYTHING, but I do tend to weigh meat simply because I don't know what a serving size is.  I don't know what 2oz of meat looks like and I still have a pre-op mind that I need an entire pack of lunch meat when I really only need about 2 slices.  I do tend to go more by serving sizes (like 5 crackers vs a handful) mainly because I keep track of my calories with myfitnesspal.com and I want to be sure that I keep as close to exact calorie numbers as possible.  My husband doesn't weigh or track anything but feels the need to weigh himself daily.  It really is just what works for you.  :)

Good luck!!

The NUT Wants you to learn portion sizes after your surgery. So when you are not home you can make portion decisions.
